Re: United States Politics Thread 46
Redistributing equity in corporations away from wealthy individuals is the stupidest idea I have ever heard. Publically-traded corporations are already subject to a lot of pressure to behave extremely shortsightedly, because stockholders win when the market price of shares in the corporation rises; ...

Re: United States Politics Thread 46
FDR is mostly the ultimate evil for his utter failure slash refusal to ensure proper succession. He purposefully centralized power within his own person, but by informal means, with the result that when he died the bureaucracy became autonomous and largely responsible only to congress. So really in ...

Re: United States Politics Thread 46
This genre of post reminds me very strongly of the time when I was arguing with an anarchist who for the life of him could (or, more likely, would) not understand that there were ways of being opposed to anarchism that don't entail the belief that "voting for social-democratic politicians will ...

Re: The Allosphere
Even Karch has a seven kill stele signature in Swamp Orthography now, gotta succumb to the peer pressure So: how do you translate it to Kangshi? Kangshi syntax is known to be annoying, so this is probably like the fifth iteration of a Kangshi Qishabei I do, but maybe I'll get it to stick at some poi...

Re: H13's Non-Allospherian Conlang Thread
The Aorist The aorist is the unmarked form. Its semantic value is simply the assertion of some state or action. Pragmatically, what this means depends on the inherent aspect of the verb: with perfective verbs, this means a past occurrence, whereas with imperfective verbs, it is most often a future ...

Re: Brassica SCA [v0.0.2]
I’m seriously impressed that you managed to do this — without proper documentation! (I’ve been meaning to write some, but alas, haven’t gotten around to it just yet…) I find it extremely surprising that this was easier to build on Windows than Linux; in my experience, it’s usually the other way aro...

Re: Brassica SCA [v0.0.2]
So I have good news and bad news. The good news is that I've managed to compile and run the brassica GUI on Linux. The bad news is that it was extremely involved to do so, largely because (til) Windows doesn't have a distinction between position-independent and position-dependent code, which lets y...

While I'm at it, I also have a bug report/feature request: Brassica doesn't apply sound changes multiple times when the direction of application is LTR.

Re: H13's Non-Allospherian Conlang Thread
Luckily for you, I have a fair amount of things about Old Inggirian already written up, which I will be happy to post. So, let us start with Old Inggirian verbal morphology. The inflectional verbal morphology of Old Inggirian divides itself, albeit not neatly, into three sets of forms: bound forms, ...

H13's Non-Allospherian Conlang Thread
Turns out that the whole "naturalistic conlangs" thing is extremely difficult, also I need naming languages for my tabletop setting, so I accidentally those instead of working on the Akana relay or Kangshi. Oops. I started working on these conlangs sometime in 2018, when I ran a D&D ca...

I just often reuse words that I already used for simpler meanings. Oba dis in wo dirayf mohfoloji min. Dirayf mohfoloji u dohn prefis o sofis an an, fi olta mining an/o tahn woh ya ina difa sintas katagri. But that's not what derivational morphology means. Derivational morphology is adding a prefix...

I mean, the Romanian case system basically derives from exactly this construction. You can just drop the distinction between definite and indefinite nouns if you want universal morphological case marking.

I recommend this paper for a more in-depth treatment, including an exploration of how you can derive it diachronically.
