Re: The Contradictory Feelings Thread
I don't think nobody blames the WHO, it's just not the sort of thing anyone with the power to mainstream things is politically interested in mainstreaming, for fairly obvious reasons.

Re: Origins / development of the Welsh verbnoun?
According to Jeffers ("Remarks on Indo-European Infinitives." Language 51, no. 1 (1975): 133-48), Celtic is something of a free-for-fall compared to other Indo-European languages: In Celtic...there is virtually no limitation on what stem types may occur. The other IE languages show a syst...

Tangentially related to this: It is also an interesting cultural phenomenon that English-speaking countries appear to fail to realize that for them modernity began centuries ago, and seem to essentially function on the Russian timeline. I'd be curious to find out what causes that.

Re: The Allosphere
if I ever get around to documenting any of my conlangs, Rau is probably the highest priority unless I scrap everything and revise it again, but I think "what if Burmeso was also Coptic" fits reasonably well with what's known about the area and the family - realistically for YP the two imp...

Re: The Allosphere
One detail that this leaves out is that, from the Cihlae perspective, the distinguishing trait of the Katnahl is their ritual use of qutna (Rau; the Kangshi call it dKmzcbh , a repurposed name for a plant native to the Zhjumna), a large shrub in the mint family. The leaves of this plant contain seve...

Some excerpts from a text on Kangshi I'm composing. The boring stuff, really, but the meat is on the way. Introduction The Kangshi language, named after its usual autonym (Kangshi: qcñxswx ), which literally means just what is spoken, is one of the more important languages spoken in the eastern reac...

spoken in and near the Zhjumna Mountains (which really should have a Kangshuic name; Amqoli is not a major language) For what it's worth, Kangshi's macrofamily (which probably doesn't exist) was supposed to be named Qoic, after the Old Kangshi ñzw.qxox [ŋzɯ 55 ˈqʰχɔ 52 ] for the mountain range it i...

But also Manchu morin , Proto-Mongolic *mori I am curious as to whose reconstruction this is from. In all Mongolic varieties I am familiar with, this word is an n-stem: Buryat морин , Kalmyk мөрн , Khalkha мор(и)н- (this latter one does have the nominative form морь , but deletion of final -n in th...

That last paragraph is fairly interesting: Entre les générations présentes, un changement phonétique a eu lieu, de sorte que -ɐʁ et -oʁ se sont confondues. Chez les locuteurs du type innovateur, donc, la poussée vers æ a été menée à ton terme : toutes les voyelles devant -ʁ sont devenues æ. Celles q...

(American?) English speakers hearing German long mid vowels as high is something I encounter basically all the time, so I figure it's just because the spectral values overlap significantly enough. I'm unsure if British English speakers are less likely to have this; your normal Estuary-ish speakers a...

It sort of depends on the way other sentences work in Kala, but I think "dark brown" here just modifies "dog". Prepositions are absolutely a thing, although most SOV languages like this have postpositions (this seems to be the way Kala works too, from these few examples). "S...

Yes, exactly. A yalancı dolma is one not filled with meat. EDIT: To be clear, this phrase is in use in Turkish, and the Armenian word is thus a straightforward loan. The question of semantic motivation is thus one Turkish phraseology, but I would wager that linguoboy is spot on. Certainly many kinds...
