Lexicon Sculpting

Post by Corphishy »

I don't think that the original ZBB had this game, but it is probably my favorite thread on the CBB.

What is the Lexicon Sculpting game, you may be asking? It is similar to the Lexicon Building game, but instead of giving people definitions to create words for, you give people words from your conlang for people to "sculpt" into their own conlang. It's basically a conlang telephone game.

Here is an example of this game being played (taken and slightly modified from the CBB thread):
Person A wrote:/taksa/ 'feather'
Person B wrote:
Person A wrote:/taksa/ 'feather'
/tʰaxsa/ 'wing'

Next: /buhn/ 'do'
You can change the definition as much or as little as possible. The point is to turn one conlang's word into something useful for your own purposes.

I'll go first, naturally:

ceiog [ˈkei̯ɔg] v. bend, fold

petty [phɜthi] overly concerned with profit and gain
My name is meant to be pronounced [çɔˈlɔːbrɪkʌ], but you can pronounce it any way you like.
The initial palatal fricative can be replaced by [hj] and the final vowel by [a] (I think that's the right IPA symbol).
