Re: Russia invades Ukraine

So, is Belarus under instructions to start a war against Poland now? na, sounds more like the ramblings of a conservative. OUR ENEMIES ARE GOING TO DESTROY US THROUGH FORCING US TO LET POOR PEOPLE IN. THIS IS THE BEGGINING OF THE DEGENERATION OF THE NATION THROUGH BLOOD MIXING AAAAA of course i don...

Re: AIs gunning for our precious freelancers

I'm all for reducing busywork, which is why I've made Javascript toys for conlang creation. But I don't get what the LLM is supposed to add. absolutely. it's like writing poems via LLM: sure, you get something that's statistically similar enough to a poem, but why. then again, what might be a usefu...

Re: AIs gunning for our precious freelancers

Saying that "social links" ought to be preserved is in essence saying that social liberalism is a bad thing. "Social links" are in many cases what keeps one in one's place, what dimishes and limits one's rights, opportunities, and freedoms. social cohesion and liberalism sometim...

Re: AIs gunning for our precious freelancers

the pseudoverse my eyes are starting to get used to just skip it but yeah, tell a latin american worker who spends 45 hours a day getting less than 500 bucks a month, in a city where rent starts at 300 and bus fare is 100 a month, that they don't need low prices. that being said I agree with the gen...

Re: If random letter sequences were actual words

but the real question is: are natural languages funky enough that it is plausible for any random sequence to be at least a viable unironic orthography for a real(istic) lang? I think the answer is clearly yes, at least for stuff that is not, you know, twenty ampersands in a row. cgespzjvvskiaari is ...

Re: Does anyone have a local copy of zompist.com?

may i suggest beautifulsoup? manually parsing html is possible, i've done it, but it's almost always simpler to just have someone else's code do it for you.

Re: AIs gunning for our precious freelancers

some with a sheepish or routine mind would perhaps be satisfied with such a world where everything is decided by others and where you only have to follow an established order, it is perhaps the majority... subjugation isn't a new thing, though. graeber and wrenwrow have good references to accounts ...

Re: AIs gunning for our precious freelancers

But plenty of AI enthusiasts are trying to create sentient AGI with superhuman intelligence. yee but that's such an ill-defined problem. ai agents are a thing, though. I'm pretty sure you can wreack a lot of havoc with quite ungeneral intelligence AI would serve to reduce the amount of work the wor...

Re: AIs gunning for our precious freelancers

I don't think that abolishing capitalism would necessarily mean the end of AI. It might as well mean the switch from a state of affairs where new labor-saving devices mean "Oh no, a lot of us will lose our jobs!" to a state of affairs where new labor-saving devices mean "Yay, we all ...

Re: AIs gunning for our precious freelancers

I can hardly overstate how much the future terrifies me these days. Things were terrible enough before all this broke and now we have an entirely new slate of problems. Is there anything we can possibly try to solve or resist this crisis? yes! abolish capitalism, establish democratic control over t...

Re: Challenge - can you understand this IAL text?

You're kind of right, but not quite. I can't actually understand portuguese, I can only sort of understand it, for example, but if I'm right me and a portuspeaker would understand interlingua more easily than we would understand each other. same with catalan, same with italian, same with asturian. u...

Re: AIs gunning for our precious freelancers

Quite honestly, I never understood why we need AI in the first place. It seems difficult to imagine any use for AGI apart from displacing humans from the economy or even control of civilization in general. We have quite a good thing going as relative masters of our own existence and it really baffl...

ooo, nais. let's see 1 is a contributing factor, as in it removes a possible inhibitor to the dependent variable. people are less likely to say or give weight to others saying "man, this is kinda like the nazis". like, yeah, i think there's evidence for this, we treat "that's like the...
