man, this is cool enough that it might just make me get back into building conlangs.

Re: Happy things thread!

I've kind of given up on buying a nice house in my area: there's no such thing that's within what someone on my income can afford, no matter how much I save. so fuck it. this sounds like a sad thing, but in fact it has been a freeing epiphany: I'm thinking of other investments, like buying a big plo...

Henlo, fren. yes, it is I.

I mean, who knows tbh. But the Mexica thread is probably gonna make me check the board every so often.

...on the other hand, things like the near-universal appearance of religious figurines suggest that the common people took some form of religion seriously. it may be the sociologist in me, but I'm inclined to talk about frequencies. clearly some people cared about religion very much, and some textu...

Well, as it happens, your problem can’t be too specific since I’ve been thinking the same thing! I was also planning for my conworld to be, in your words, a kind of ‘what if there were humans on an alien planet’ thing — hence my interest in the matter. Me three! I binged for all mankind recently. i...

Re: Meet the Mexica!

My god, this is a wonderful read. May I say, Ars Lande, that your inclination to de-exotify these guys is enjoyable and refreshing, not to mention epistemically superior. I'm struck by the similarities of old mexico with what china looked like when between dynasties. or civil wars. the enemy thing i...

Re: Random Thread

I've been contributing to Wikipedia for about a decade and this is the first time anyone's ever asked me to make an emergency edit. I'm curious what kind of emergency calls for a Wikipedia edit. A friend of mine is a funeral director. Apparently she was doing some pre-planning with a local minor ce...

Re: COVID-19 thread

tbh I sometimes wish covid never ended. working from home has been pleasant af, and I don't look forwards to again going into an office (that doesn't have any reason to exist). thankfully, it doesn't seem like my company has any plans to get back in the short term. I'm hoping that one of the perman...

Ya I had heard of this. Adapt or go extinct i guess. Distilleries in Chicago don't really need to worry about this, as liquor stores have officially been designated "essential services" under the terms of the State of Illinois' stay-at-home order. But as far as I know, only one--CH Distil...

No, no, I hadn't even noticed those tbh. That's a cool touch tho. The ones I mean are those geometrical, black-and-white blocky patterns that aren't representational and that have rotational symmetry: the ones the little birdie with the palm crown is looking at.

Re: Daily Creativity Thread

Well, I've been playing around at the piano for something like three years, whereas I've only had my cello for one and a bit: the unfortunate consequence of this is that I _can_ produce nice-sounding things at the piano, and not at the cello. Not only that, but it's a remarkably hard instrument to l...

Those sound very professional to my untrained ears, Torco, nice work! But I think I speak for everyone when I say... step away from the piano and write some cello-based conworld music! Thanks! the good thing about the cello is that you get to play around with odd tunings and microtonal stuff, just ...

Hey, Ars ! still feels like home here. I'm perfectly safe this far, Chile is a lot earlier in its curve. 4) And poor people living in trailer homes and apartments will be the least able to handle this thing. If they even believe in science or know anyone who can explain all the intricacies to them. ...

Here's a page of Peter Rabbit in Saava's native script. https://i.imgur.com/XSU26HW.png Imma pull a serali here and say that is one pretty scriptie. I have this feeling that a lot of conscripts that are rich in twirlies and loopdiloops (technical terms, mind you) are also overly complicated, but th...

Not to mention the transition is gonna ruin or end plenty of lives: not that late stage capitalism doesn't but hey. I trust it'll be worth it for the end of absurd copyright law alone.
