Re: Anyone up for a good old-fashioned translation relay? STARTING 1 APRIL
I’ll be sending the torch shortly (as in the next two or three hours); my apologies for the delay.

Re: Anyone up for a good old-fashioned translation relay?
Weather update: We should still be on track to start on Friday (Eastern time). If you need more time with your torch, let us know. If you need less time, that's fine too—you can send the torch to the next participant early. If you need to reschedule your position, we'll adapt. At this point, assumin...

Re: Anyone up for a good old-fashioned translation relay?
I'm ready if everyone still wants to start on April 1. Man in Space, do you want to edit the first post, or start a new thread? Also, it's your show, but maybe message the people involved to remind them of their place in the schedule. I'm still down, and those are good ideas. Thank you. Everyone: P...

Re: Relocation Advice Thread
Update: No success on these fronts. What I might do is try to find an extended stay hotel and then try to find a recruiter who’s doing immediate placement (the one I was talking to said they were more towards that than anything else), and then find an apartment or a rental once in established and kn...

Word 1: Deletion of weak vowels (with regressive voicing assimilation)
[ˈiːlmiʃ ˈmɑːʒðɒvzv]
Word 2: Vowel height averaging
[ʒᶣje'ʃẽː]
Word 1 looks kind of Kartvelian to me now. Word 2 looks like it could fit right in next to Ubykh.

Well, since French basically did the same thing on the way down from Latin, it's kind of appropriate.

Re: Anyone up for a good old-fashioned translation relay?
If we wanted to start early, I have a small text translated and ready to go. I’d just need to write a brief grammar and lexicon covering the basics of what is mentioned in the torch.

Re: Anyone up for a good old-fashioned translation relay?
Another question about how this works: it sounds like the relay starts and finishes at the same person. How does this not undo the whole relay? Surely the final decipherment would be influenced by the original text if both are done by the same person? The original receiver may be influenced, sure, ...
