Re: The Contradictory Feelings Thread
I am back from my self-impose exile, born of shame at totally failing to deliver anything at all for the relay. Yknow, I could say I've had lot going on in life, which is true but it's also always true so... Anyway, I'll presumably try to finish my language anyway, even if uh, the date of relevancy...

Redoing CT cuneiform yet again, based on zompist’s explanation in the MECK. I’m debating whether to write them in hieroglyphics instead, but at least I have some preliminary studies based on CK monumental script.

Re: United States Politics Thread 46
Wow, that nearly-useless American history course I went through in college finally pays off! As I understand it, it has a lot to do with the fact that the New World was kind of a blank slate where any of society's rejects could ply their trade and make a name for themselves. Couldn't hack it in the ...

In my case—yes. It honestly didn't cross my mind to check there, but then again, normally about 80% of my browsing is confined to here, the Other Place, schlaugh, Reddit, and the august Dr. Wik E. Pedia.

FWIW, I approved the proof yesterday night, so they're frighteningly efficient these days. Earlier, with the LCK, it would take days or weeks for the foreign versions of amazon to get the book. Oh, I missed this news! I've been looking forward to its release. I apologize if this has been asked else...

I'm thinking I'm going to redo the romanization of some of my conlangs due to technical limitations—my font family of choice, TT Marxiana, has a disappointingly limited character set. The main changes: Classical Ĝare n Tim Ar : /m n ŋ/ m n ĝ /θ s x h/ ð s ḫ h /ɬ/ ł /ɹ ʕ/ r g /l/ l Vowels stay the sa...

IIUC, maybe Egyptian Arabic is what you are looking for? Probably although since I'm not an Arabophone I don't know how much modern culture is produced in it Egypt is the TV capital of the Arab world. Everyone from Morocco to Muscat can probably name a half-dozen Egyptian soap operas. I couldn't te...

Out of interest I attempted to program this on my synthesiser, only to find some discrepancies: If the chromatic is an eighteenth of the fifth, I’d expect it to be 38.998 cents, but your listed value of 77.995 cents is double that The ‘diatonic’ scale appears to have 2+3+1+2+2+3+1+2=16 steps, but i...
