Re: Twin Aster

Plurals in CT operate by one of a few mechanisms. There are three typical methods, depending on the shape of the word: Metathesis , decomposition , and a pluralizing particle . (...) That is extremely cool. Thank you! That's one of the earliest features of the language—it's about a decade old. So T...

Re: Kala updates etc.

My question is; Do I include all the script information and lexicon, or should I have separate documents for those? If I include everything I may very well have a short book, but keeping things separate will create at least three manageable documents. Thoughts? Thank you in advance. Go with the thr...

Re: Twin Aster

OK, so having run things through Shagomir's Planet Calculator: - A day on Ítöð is a bit over 26 hours long (the solar day is 26.12 hours; the sidereal day, 26.02). - A local year is 253.1 local days, or almost 275.5 Earth days. - Radius and mass are both ~102% that of Earth. Density is 96%; gravity,...

Re: Venting thread that is tentatively once again all-inclusive

For the past week or thereabouts I’ve been regularly starting my days well but then developing a 100+ fever and a stuffy nose in the evenings. Now joint pain is in the mix. I’m suspecting flu.

Re: Twin Aster

With regards to the system, when thinking about it, I decided that the companion star's apparent magnitude was a major consideration—I didn't want the night to be day-lite. To that end, I've opted to go with Xi Boötis A . The secondary is a K- or M-type star that only gets a little closer to its pri...

Re: Twin Aster

I have been reëvaluating where Ítöð is located. It requires the following: - G-type primary, or reasonably close option - Projected age of at least 2 Gyr, preferably 3 – 6 Gyr - Wide binary or similar system - No currently-detected extrasolar planets that would wreck the habitable zone - < 100 ly di...

Could be a number of reasons. Just off the top of my head…
- Morphological alternations
- Partial voicing/devoicing
- It’s actually slack voice or some other phonation
- To highlight particulars of the phonetic environment

What's a schlaugh? Schlaugh is a blogging platform focused on a measured production and consumption experience. It updates at the same time every day and you can only post once per day. You can’t see who follows you nor respond directly to posts (though you can tag others and a general tag, “milksh...

To take your mind off actual horror, how about some nice conworlding horror instead? Green Antarctica Apparently there's also a thread going at AlternateHistory.com The doc is about the size of a thick novel, and I must say that's some pretty neat conworlding they got going on. The basic idea is th...

Clearly the term “hut” meaning “basic domicile” is a colloquial development—specifically shortening and generalization—of “Pizza Hut”, a location apparently held in great esteem.

Do you have any special process for preparing beforehand?
Not really. I try to have a general idea of where the story is going, and I have to do some conlanging for it, but I don’t have any ritualistic customs or anything.

So I was wandering down an Internet rabbit hole and I saw some ways you could change the color of the ocean. I've decided that Ítöð has red, iron-rich oceans. Might even be a Canfield ocean. Also, Ítöð has two kingdoms corresponding to "plants" based on what color their chlorophylls are: í...

Re: Grammaticalization Quickie Thread

Suppose you have a language where there are different conjunctions for joining nouns, verbs, and clauses. (There is also a lot of zero-derivation between verbs and nouns.) Is it plausible that conjunctions for nouns and/or verbs could develop into classifiers/markers for nouns (and/or for verbs)?
