Re: English questions

I hope this thread is allright to post this in. I'm trying to find the right lyrics to Courtney Love - Mono. Different sources write it slightly differently, but many say something like this: Oh god I'd give you anything to hear you say that I was right and you were wrong Oh god before I leave this...

Re: Daily Creativity Thread

I made a few more Mandelbrot videos. These two, in particular, took really long to render... but I think the results were worth it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QsDPF4qwzYA https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BMxAnPpfBVs Whoa! I don't think I've seen those spiral tail formations before. Definitely w...

Re: Yet-Unnamed Language Scratchpad

Are the loc/lat/dir cases inherently adverbial, or only adverbs when the clitics are affixed? Can the cases be used to modify nouns without being relativised?

Re: Yet-Unnamed Language Scratchpad

Have a complete sentence: se-peŋŋ se-kanjo se-mijom-käll-sä lowo ro-soo-nobuad "The fox ate the fish intended for the child" And the gloss: se- peŋŋ se- kanjo se- mijom -käll -sä lowo ro- soo- nobuad Very nice, what's -sä doing in se-mijom-käll-sä ? It looks like the clause is relativised...

Re: Random Thread

Years ago, I read somewhere that the Ukrainian folk song the tune is based on is so old that some believe it to be of prehistoric origin. That is very cool! I would have loved to post this over in the "What are you reading, watching, and listening to"-thread, but unfortunately, I couldn't...

Re: Yet-Unnamed Language Scratchpad

This is great! I also really love the alignment, and the stem gradations are great. I would be interested to see some more examples of the loc/lat/dir cases and the possessive adjective. That last one isn't a term I've come across before, so I'm curious how its behaviour distinguishes it from cases.

Re: TC: Marcus Aurelius

Hey, it's been ages since we've a TC here! I suggest one from Marcus Aurelius' Meditations (I think To Oneself would be a better translation) I walk in Nature's way until I shall lie down and rest, breathing my last in this from which I draw my daily breath, and lying down on this from which my fat...

Re: English questions

Despite the fact we live in a flat above a shop (UK), I often refer to my flatmate as my 'housemate', probably because I'm more used to sharing a house than a flat.

Re: Random Thread

Twitter's new thing that I hate is that it's recommending 'topics' to follow right in the main feed - topics such as 'viral tweets' or 'Taylor Swift'. I've yet to see anything remotely interesting to me. As far as I can tell, twitter doesn't provide the option to turn topic suggestions off, so I'm s...
