Re: A decryption challenge

Oh hey, nice work so far. It's cool to see my code written in someone else's handwriting! :) I went through the word list looking for mistakes, and found a couple, at least one of which (the one in white, erasing the low bar) is definitely my own and is in the original text (I knew it as soon as I f...

Re: Happy things thread!

As of today (August 20), I've walked over 10,000 steps every single day for a thousand days—every day since November 25, 2017.

And tomorrow, a thousand and one…

Not giving anything away yet since I'm seeing some good insights in this thread, but since this is just a dumb handwriting thing: there's no distinction here (they're all supposed to be dots).

Re: Dream sharing thread

My coworker kept throwing away butter knives in the break room trash can. I was like "what are you doing? You know you can reuse those, right?" but she kept doing it every time she came in. But then, a student gave me a small pound cake, accompanied by six butter knives. "What am I su...

Re: The Contradictory Feelings Thread

A couple of things: I have a big dumb crush on my boss. We click super well and I strongly suspect, based on some pretty solid evidence, that it may actually be reciprocal…but he's my boss and also already in a relationship. Crushes like this are the epitome of contradictory feelings, I feel. They f...

Here you go.

I was pretty careful with this one. I did absentmindedly slightly change the wording in one place, and made a couple of stylistic changes. Not every change in here is mistake correction…

Re: A decryption challenge

To be clear, the overlong descenders are actually just a quirk of my handwriting. :P

(yes, my lowercase g is always this fancy)

It's very possible to write with much shorter ascenders and descenders:

I just usually don't!

Thanks!

I've discovered a couple of mistakes—missing dots (as expected, oy) and a missing letter. I'll fix them in the morning…

A decryption challenge

So I've been keeping a journal in code since 2010-ish, and more or less finalized the form of it in 2012. This was originally the conscript for a long-abandoned conlang, but I adapted it to write English and have used it for such ever since. I'd been considering making a post explaining how it works...

Re: Happy things thread!

Thanks, everyone!

It's definitely a weird time to be me. I'm shocking myself daily with the stuff I find myself doing and saying and couldn't be happier about it. Getting lots of comments from people around me too about how my whole demeanor has shifted. Weird but good.

Re: Happy things thread!

I had three world-shattering personal epiphanies a couple weeks ago within a few days of each other and my mindset has totally shifted. I struggled so hard to connect with people for so long, but now it seems almost effortless. I've already repaired some broken friendships and built new ones, and I ...

My coworker Paul, who is a man in his 50s from New Jersey, had started a cult (a strange new sect of Buddhism, where everyone wore orange robes). I had joined the cult, and was a community organizer, trying to set up cult community events. However, Paul was trying to make a very large rhubarb tart a...

I have just successfully baked a beautiful little loaf of bread …in my 19 square meter apartment that does not even have a counter (none!), let alone an oven. I put the dough on the bottom of a preheated pot for a minute so it wouldn't drip down, then transferred it onto the steamer trivet from my p...

Re: Tehemne mythology (meet the áhash!)

Been a while. I've been working on my novel on and off but just generally pretty busy. Here's another áhash story, though: ~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Not very long ago, there was a woman who lived here in Iwákai whose name has since been forgotten. Late one night in early autumn, when the moon was full, she went...
