Re: The Contradictory Feelings Thread

I just contacted a service that helps foreigners in Japan coordinate healthcare to help me set up an appointment with a psychiatrist for anxiety. I'm proud of myself that I am finally taking steps to treat my anxiety, but I'm also frustrated with myself that I've let it get as bad as it has. And it ...

Re: Happy things thread!

I'm somewhat obsessed with this hiking trail I found back in August, called the Yamanobe-no-Michi (山辺の道). Very few people know about it, but it's the oldest known road in the country . It's lined with interesting and ancient sites (including a bunch of kofun and arguably the oldest Shinto shrine in ...

Re: The Contradictory Feelings Thread

My parents left Japan two days ago. Exhausted, emotionally and physically drained, and so glad that's over. I think my favorite anecdote from this trip is how my mother pulled me out of bed at 10 PM to make me help her go change hotel rooms, because…she didn't like the texture of the windows. No, se...

Re: Dream sharing thread

I don't remember very much about the dream, but I was hospitalized, and I kept running away from the doctors to try to get my daily steps in. Also, the hospital was a cruise ship, and we kept stopping in different places around the Mediterranean.

Currently trying to read Hendrik Kern's translation of the Lotus Sutra. However, at this point, the Lotus Sutra seems to be about how awesome the Lotus Sutra is and how a tentasquillion celestial beings in a flibdillion worlds were enlightened by it, and I'm not actually sure where the enlightening ...

Re: The Contradictory Feelings Thread

I'm happy to report that this typhoon is 100% bog-standard normal typhoon, not terrifying apocalyptic typhoon like the last one. However, there appears to be another beastie spinning itself up right on its heels, possibly to arrive next week. At this point, it looks like it's going to follow almost ...

Re: The Contradictory Feelings Thread

It may be frustrating to have to 'slow down' when you're 'succeeding'; but if it makes it any easier, slower rates of weight loss don't just produce fewer side effects, they're also strongly associated with much slower rates of weight regain. [This appears to be for both psychological and physiolog...

Re: The Contradictory Feelings Thread

So I've been losing weight lately, and have been doing so quite fast—it's been about 1.2kg a week this month. I've been feeling pretty good overall and have been assuming the pace would eventually slow down as I continued the program But yesterday at the doctor, she pointed out some blood test resul...

Fine, my next entry: I was a knight in a party of several other knights (all Harry Potter characters). The king of our city state called us into his throne room to give us a very important task: the heart of the forest was dying, he said, and we needed to go find the seed of the forest and replant i...

Re: Happy things thread!

So I got stranded in Kobe at a friend's place all day due to the massive-ass typhoon rolling directly through. I had two doctor's appointments in the morning, and one of them ran late and the trains home shut down. But I just had two incredible strokes of luck: 1. The first train line to come back u...

Huh! Well, here's another one: I was once a professional product tester for this new item called Tornado Pants. Tornado Pants are tight black pants which, when two people wearing them come in close proximity to each other, should theoretically produce a tornado. The problem was that they didn't work...

From the dream thread: I dreamed that I was one of twenty-ish test riders for Noam Chomsky's new invention, the air railroad. An air railroad is a railroad where the rails are not placed on ties on the ground, but rather suspended in the air. At one point, the rails twisted for some reason, and it ...

The strongest typhoon to hit Japan in twenty years, and I live literally right on that dotted line. Apprehensive? Uh, yeah. Excited? Hell yes.

Re: Happy things thread!

I've been back to doing a lot of worldbuilding and have built quite a bit of mythology for one of my more minor conpeoples (called the Tehemne). I even have a myth that I think I would actually like to turn into a novel. It would be so cool to actually write a book in my conworld instead of just fuc...

I've been doing an intermittent fasting program where I fast after 5PM until whenever I have breakfast the next morning, with some exceptions allowed (in social situations where other people are eating and after exercise, basically). It's been really easy to stick to and has been incredibly good for...
