From the BBC:
Hamilton 'physically and mentally on another level' for new season
Not that confusing in itself, but when I first saw it in my RSS reader, I thought at first that it was about the Broadway musical, when, in fact, it is about the Formula 1 driver.

Then again, that's true of the economic theories peddled by their right-wing opponents, too.Moose-tache wrote: ↑Mon Feb 03, 2020 1:41 amKeynesian economics has always rested on the premise of everything always working exactly right forever, operated by infinitely rational actors with perfect information.

Re: Happy things thread!
So, in potentially interesting things, I applied about a month ago for a postdoc position in the Netherlands. Had two interviews which went quite well, and the group seems interesting and interested in a lot of multidisciplinary research. Today, I just got offered the position. I accepted. So I'll ...

I'll return to something I posted here months ago on the grounds of something I just read - apologies in advance for bringing it up again: My nightmare scenarios, to the extent to which I have them, tend to be different depending on the topic, but on the specific topic of economic policy, one of my ...

I guess Moose-tache's point is that it doesn't really make sense to always, after a lost election or referendum, claim that the other side really lost by counting all the people who didn't vote as a part of one's own side.

Re: Dream sharing thread
Last night I dreamed that I was reading something that purported to be a history textbook, but it turned out that it claimed the battles it described involved zombie-like half-dead creatures of some kind, and while I read about those battles, I experienced them, and it was all in South America for s...

Re: Rudimentary History of my main Conculture, formerly known as the Ageist Kingdom
Thank you for your feedback. Problem is, I'm not at all sure how to polish it. The Council is a good deal smaller than the Roman Senate - Monarchs are usually in their 60s or 70s when they become Monarchs, and usually stay Monarchs fo two years, so you won't have hundreds of former Monarchs. I prett...

Rudimentary History of my main Conculture, formerly known as the Ageist Kingdom
EDIT : The meat of this history hasn't been over at my blog in quite a while; instead, it has been a few posts down in this thread right here. The discussion of my attempts at coming up with naming languages was in this thread: http://www.verduria.org/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=237 Many thanks to ever...

Re: A history of the Roman Empire from 565 to 1960 -- done!
Wow, that looks really impressive, although I must admit that I haven't read most of it yet. Great work! And I'm done! I'd planned initially to go on to 2020, but 1960 looks a good stopping point. In my own rudimentary conhistory, I stopped when my main conculture had reached roughly the technology ...

Have you already worked out how the Alternate 2019 Empire looks like? In the ATL, Charlemagne never becomes Emperor -- he remains Karle I, rei Frangoro , king of the Franks and technically (that is, in the most technical and meaningless sense possible) a vassal of Cesar in Rome Why does he exist at ...

This Board has a .org address. Is there any risk that the recently announced purchase of the .org top level domain by a private company might cause trouble?

Re: Pronunciations you had to unlearn
Wait, so the conventional pronunciation of the ancient city of Tanis is with /eː/, not with /aː/ or /æ/? And Abydos is /əˈbaidɔs/, not */ˈæbɪdɔs/? Both follow the usual rules for pronouncing classical names in English, TIL that there are usual rules for pronouncing classical names in English.

Re: British Politics Guide
Part of the reason middle classes got to be so numerous, in contrast to previous centuries, was thanks to socialist policies implemented in a democratic context. At any rate, thanks to left-wing socioeconomic policies; whether it makes sense to call these policies "socialist" is a differe...

Re: Random Thread
Random thought: I quite like the way the Ephemera Forum has turned out on the new ZBB - a number of ongoing threads dedicated to general topics, where people post whatever they want as long as it fits those general topics. As far as I can tell, no one ever consciously set out to do things that way, ...
