The vowel is altered exactly like write > written. It’s just not shown orthographically because v is tradi...

Re: English questions

Travis B. wrote: Thu Apr 16, 2026 8:42 pm Does anyone else have a consistent phonemic contrast between enable and unable?
Yes. That's completely standard outside of the US and a few STRUT/schwa-merging regions in, from memory, mid-north-ish England.

enable /əˈneɪbəl/ [əˈnæɪ̯bɫ̩]
unable /ʌˈneɪbəl/ [äˈnæɪ̯bɫ̩]

Re: Conlang Random Thread

What is the difference between /ai/ and /ay/ among the diphthongs? If it's a contrast between /ai/ and /ay/, I'd assume that one ends close to [ i] and one ends close to [y], but the diphthongs aren't listed in a way that suggests it's IPA (no slashes or square brackets), so we can assume that the ...

Re: Conlang made from interleaved vowel-words and consonant-words

I made one like this back in 2017, Letaale , inspired by both Iljena and Abakwi and with my usual thing of not having a noun-verb distinction, so all roots have a noun form (triconsonantal) and a verb form (trivocalic) with the noun form being equivalent to the agent noun of the verb form and the ve...
