Re: An IAL
OK, now I understand. Are you sure it's a good idea to have that much relativization going on in an IAL? ![Confused :?](./images/smilies/icon_e_confused.gif)

Re: Omni-kan syntax
That's the one big difference between our IALs. Yours uses relative clauses for everything, and everything is a verb. ^_^;

Well, first of all, what are your syllabic consonants? Make a sound change #6 that deletes vowels before those consonants that can become syllabic.

Re: What have you accomplished today?
surprisingly quickly, I've gotten my newest lang Bau Danyi to a point of significant maturity: 1,5 k lexicon, a decently unified feel to it, and when i pick some random conlang syntax test case, for example, I can translate it just with adding lexicon to it, i.e. I don't need any new grammar WTF?! ...

Re: Twin Aster
Plurals in CT operate by one of a few mechanisms. There are three typical methods, depending on the shape of the word: Metathesis , decomposition , and a pluralizing particle . I like that you've used very different kinds of morphology for this. It's so simple and natural, yet I don't think I've do...

Re: Omni-kan syntax
I actually did the numbers. L1 speakers L2 speakers Gen-N 1,954,342,550 2,403,495,970 N-Gen 1,425,775,327 2,577,478,800 This includes all my focus languages, except for some that lacked data points in WALS. English is also excluded because English has both orders. One has to take the figures for num...

Hmm, I've been looking and looking on WP, but everything either belongs to one of those families it's not supposed to be, or does still have L1 speakers, or wasn't spoken anywhere near Thailand or Laos.

Yeah, I know. It's hard not to treat it like an artlang.Rounin Ryuuji wrote: ↑Tue Jan 19, 2021 2:28 pm All this said, this being your language, you ought to do with it what you like, but I think w is, unfortunately, the most logical choice.

Re: Omni-kan syntax
Okay, I'll keep the W.
Good question. No, that's the number of individual languages. It would be impossible to calculate the number of speakers for any feature. But I'll have a look and make a guesstimation based on the big languages...

I could design new characters by hand, but making them digitally... Oh, I see. Well, that's no biggie. You could draw all the characters by hand and then scan them. Vectorizing hand drawn characters might or might not be successful, but if that doesn't work, then you could use the drawings as templ...

Re: Omni-kan syntax
The labial continuant Omni-kan has a phoneme that can be realized as any of [v], [ʋ] or [w]. I had decided to spell it with <w>, though <v> is very tempting. Disadvantages of <v> When Spanish speakers and East Asians see <v>, they will likely pronounce it wrong, even if they are told to use /w/ Dis...

Re: Omni-kan syntax
Aha. I didn't want to insert the relative clause in the middle of it all, like we do in English. I don’t see why that should be a problem… it’s what pretty much every other language does. Because it gets word-salady. :? Except that introduces a lot of ambiguity: what jumps in cat fight snake, it ju...

Re: Omni-kan syntax
Hmm, if I'm reading WALS correctly, it's called a correlative clause if the relative clause contains something to mark it as such, but a paratactic relative clause if it doesn't.

Re: Omni-kan syntax
I suspect the reason everyone was misinterpreting these was because the relative clauses are for the most part not adjacent to the head noun: Aha. I didn't want to insert the relative clause in the middle of it all, like we do in English. I suspect the most minimalistic way to fix this would be to ...

Re: A little dabbling in Japonic
Aha. Well, it doesn't have to be technically difficult. You could probably just copy an existing Japanese font and then replace every glyph with a design of your own. Then you could use the existing IME to write it. But you need a good aesthetic.
