Re: Ajjamah Scratchpad: Spell Types

A small detour, to discuss SPELL TYPES : There are three branches of magic in the world, broadly defined as Perception (Classical Salvian ikyumih ), Evocation ( hakrālah ), and Redirection ( ukūtuh ). Each of those involves not the creation of spells, but the usage of pre-existing ones, often floati...

Re: Ajjamah Scratchpad: A New Climate Map

I’ve just noticed your map you posted — it looks excellent! If you don’t mind me asking: how did you go about figuring out the climates? I’ve tried doing that in the past for some of my maps, and I’ve never managed to figure out how to do them. (Although admittedly some of that may be perfectionism...

Re: Ajjamah Scratchpad: A New Climate Map

This is a slight tangent, but I absolutely love the tone of your website, with the 'Let's make something together' vibe. It's a lovely idea very well delivered, so far. And what I've checked out of the content is great too. How did you calculate your insolation patterns? Or is it more conceptual an...

Re: Ajjamah Scratchpad: New Climate Map

Annoyingly, I'm having difficulty with this new climate map. Ah, well, at least I can post it here… Note the enlarged areas of warmer climes; Ajjamah is about two degrees hotter on average than Earth, and that has an overall effect on the weather. https://www.deviantart.com/avatarvyakara/art/Spell-...

Re: Sumer and Shang - a question

My personal guess is that the civilizations around the Tigris and Euphrates not only had to deal with the issue of geography, but also of weather. Humid subtropical weather seems to have good bouts of rain and sun in relatively predictable patterns, meaning more fertile land, meaning that one can ex...

Many thanks, Pabappa! And now, on to: QAR IQ-QIRISHID The Lampsellers (they call themselves Ra'ibid Ar-Ulkakhri "children of the Great Fire") are not particularly imposing in and of themselves. Fairly short and stocky, with burnt olive skin and wavy dark brown hair, only their amber eyes h...

Re: Ajjamah Scratchpad: The Yeti

On a long trek through the mountains of Chü-Ki (and there's very little of Chü-Ki that isn't mountains), taking care as you go to pay homage to the small but colourful shrines of the local gods, it's quite likely you'll catch something out of the corner of your eye. Something white and grey, speckle...

The Nine Gifts On the planet Ajjamah , there are nine known types of Gift, or magical ability. The Five Peoples have access to some of each, depending on their respective levels of power. Humans, who have the least access to the Dream of any of the races, have nine Gifts with fairly limited power, ...

Re: Writing about proto-languages: past or present tense?

I have a general rule. If I feel like the proto-culture was advanced enough to leave some record of the language behind, then it has continuity to the present day and thus can use the present tense. If the language is hidden, or hypothetical, I use the past tense. Simple and relatively straightforwa...
