Re: Grammatical Sketch for Classical Sitr

I have to say, that’s a very pretty script! Hey, many thanks! I actually would disagree with this. I can definitely see the relationship between velars and labiovelars, and between voiceless fricatives and voiced plosives, but I can’t figure out any of the other relationships. Admittedly it's a lit...

Re: Grammatical Sketch for Classical Sitr

Nicely done! The one thing I might recommend to you is possibly adjusting the script a little bit so that the glyphs don’t resemble one another as much. I tried writing out a few sentences with it, and it was a little monotonous after a while--not to mention that for anyone with any kind of dyslexi...

Re: The Leha thread

It's the text of a stele allegedly erected by 17th-century Chinese peasant rebel Zhāng Xiànzhōng during his two-year murderous rule of the province of Sichuan. I think people here use it as one of those MurderIsTheBestSolution type of dark-humour jokes as TvTropes would put it (see the quote from D...

Re: Things Decided for Stupid Reasons

Simple one in my case: back when I was starting out in the late 2000s (and give me a break, I was all of ten years old) I wanted to try and represent sounds that weren't normally included in the alphabet, namely [ð] and [ʒ]. So this fellow, instead of asking whether or not there was a way to represe...

Re: Conlang Random Thread

I'm trying to decide how to handle compounds that would end up violating phonological rules in my new conlang. The language allows word final nasals, but no finals in internal syllables, so /talam/ is a fine, but /!tamla/ isn't. I want a lot of compounding for word derivation, so /siro/ + /talam/ c...

Good to see this language finally up! Personally, I should very much like to learn more about the world (and what makes these non-humans so different, considering their phonetic inventory seems pretty much identical to that of a human). I can also offer you a redo of your world map, should you wish ...

Re: Help design a science-fictional government!

Here’s one thought for you: how about specialist clans or castes with little to no favouritism and reasonable mobility? The castes would specialize in a particular area (say, life support) then a smaller sub-group (say, oxygen extraction), with everyone given basic knowledge of all functioning parts...

Re: Ankoseiwas Thread: Verbs and Pronouns

A note on VERBS AND PRONOUNS : Conjugation The verb in Ankoseiwas is far, far simpler than its counterpart in most of the other Empath languages, including the Quiramic and Salvian families, and is even (by comparison) simpler than in most other Keeper dialects. Thanks to a variety of sound changes ...

Re: Salvian Thread: Derivational Morphology (The Verb)

DERIVATIONAL MORPHOLOGY: THE VERB Classical Salvian isn't quite a triconsonantal language, but shares a number of features. For one, it has a large number of affixes which may be attached to the word, causing radically different formations to occur and usually leading to the construction of one or ...

Re: Need help with my triconsonantal root language

One thing I'll ask you right off the bat: how many roots have you put through this set of transformations? The more information available, the easier you may find it to locate things to tweak. (Also: the dividing line between a complex ablaut system and a triconsonantal root language is relatively f...

Re: Kisimbi Thread: Basic Syntax Part 1

I like the demonstratives since I haven't seen egocentric or alterocentric demonstratives before. It's like the inclusive/exclusive distinction you see in 2nd person personal pronouns. Cool. PS. I'm not actually sure if these are their proper names, they were the best I could come up with on short ...
