Re: Ankoseiwas Thread: Geography

New Rule: If you are describing a phenomenon that exists on Earth (like people not having perfectly binary genitalia or secondary sex characteristics), use the most current, scientific language possible. If you are describing things you made up (like people who can both impregnate and gestate), the...

Re: Odds and ends

There's a big archipelago to the south--I have a hand-drawn map of the island groups and climates somewhere if I can dig it up. I didn't include the islands because they're fairly isolated from the mainland; they are seperated from the Garanih by a very dry zone in southern Guney and the adjacent i...

Re: Odds and ends

ok thanks. I left my comment vague on purpose ... ive heard that a rectangular map is often derived from an earlier "map" of the writer's bedroom. The ironic thing is that my first real fantasy maps were all derived from floor plans of my house...I was particularly pleased with the unendi...

Re: Ankoseiwas Thread: Geography

Look, Vijay, Mèþru. I appreciate your informing me about the controversy surrounding the use of the words "hermaphrodite," "intersex," and "androgyne," all of which I have now corrected. I have now, without any specific terminology, a people known as the Clownfish Peopl...

How's about this one, then? https://i.imgur.com/7FVRISe.png (Also: https://i.imgur.com/7FVRISe.png) I adjusted the length of Qepder a little and made the valleys a little more prominent (likely you're going to have a fair bit of lava flow at some point in history, after all), and also added another ...

Many thanks, Raholeun! Anything in particular you’d like to see more of? (An honest question here; otherwise it’s rather difficult for me to focus long enough to write, embarrassingly enough...)

Proto-Icemannic:

AOR-NPast-pine-cut.down-3p-Q or pine-ABL-make-3p-Q
Were they cutting pines down, or making things from them?

Re: Icemannish Thread: Proto-Icemannic

Very good reading as always, thank you. I have a few questions, I hope not too many. Many thanks, and no trouble at all! Is your ł a convenience symbol for IPA /ɫ/, /ɬ/, or something else? Right, forgot about that...it was supposed to be /ɬ/; on the original files (Microsoft Word) I didn't have acc...

https://i.imgur.com/VxBmlkD.png How's this to start with? What improvements might you like? EDIT: the layers on the map correspond to, respectively, heights of: 0-249m ASL, 250-499m, 500-999m, 1,000-1,499m, 1,500-1,999m, and 2,000-2,499m. The hills on the northeastern portion probably need a bit of...

Re: Qagun Maruhe (48-hour-challenge lang) (now much weirder and more implausible)

An excellent start! Say, would you like me to make you a map of the island in full colour? I can do elevation as well. You can see some examples of my work on the Icemannic and Ankoseiwas threads. Thanks! :D It's really nice of you to offer to make a map! If you want to, that would be awesome. I'm ...

Re: Ankoseiwas Thread: Geography

I personally don’t mind, so long as the messages are less “don’t do” and more “instead do”; that way, I learn to be more cautious, and the whole thing gets more creative.

And now, for something new. PROTO-ICEMANNIC: PHONOLOGY AND BASIC MORPHOLOGY The Proto-Icemannic Peoples NOTE: all terms within this section are given in Proto-Icemannic unless stated otherwise. Proto-Icemannic is the name given by Irthironian scholars to the language spoken some 1,500 years ago on A...

Re: Ankoseiwas Thread: Geography

I'm, uh, not aware of any documented cases of humans who could both impregnate and gestate, so I don't think there's any constituency to offend here, and "androgyne" has a distinct and well-defined meaning that at least these days is not about being able to both impregnate and gestate Thi...

Re: Ankoseiwas Thread: Geography

I mean, I’m loathe to use the word hijra because that has definite cultural connotations, and “androgyni” might work but it’s a bit obscure...what do you think, Mèþru? Anyone?
