Re: COVID-19 thread

Most people that seemed to me sensible are confirmed sensible while those who seemed lack in seriosity are also confirmed in this. The main difference is collapsologists, survivalists and other hoarders, who now seem like they are ahead of the others.

Meanwhile, polls have shifted across Europe to more pro-status quo positions.

Re: Random Thread

I remember trying a "non-alcoholic cocktail" once. They had managed to make it as revolting as actual alcohol, without the alcohol. Needless to say, I didn't try a second time. To each their own. I have found some non-alcoholic cocktail that would be interesting. I stopped drinking alcoho...

That's cool, like the dolphins in Venice.
Except it's actually happening. So, not like dolphins in Venice.

Re: COVID-19 thread

@akam chinjir: You're lucky. Here in Réunion, with 4% of the population of Taiwan, there were 17 new cases yesterday. Definitely, I'm in maybe the only country in the world where the people in charge immediately listened to doctors in Wuhan and not to Chinese officials or the WHO. That's good, but ...

Re: COVID-19 thread

@zompist: I take into account your relevant points. Only one point I would like to add: I get the impression that South Korea has such a low fatality rate partly because it is one of the few places that tests and tracks so much. The capabilities of the health system seems to be a major factor in the...

Re: COVID-19 thread

For the confinement measures, I have been hearing on France 24 that we have been following the model of the PRC when we could be following the model of Taiwan, with more testing and not a complete confinement. For the numbers, I may be just bullshitting, but should we really be defining thus the fat...

Re: COVID-19 thread

The latest talking point among some right-wing propagandists in the USA is apparently that just because people died while being infected with the corona virus, it doesn't mean that they died of the corona virus - they might as well have died of something else while they just happened to have the co...

On the subject of films about 2020, some films which have already come out are symbolic of differences between today's life and life a decade or few back:The Matrix (with the ubiquitous smartphones and upcoming virtual reality), Fern Gully etc

For evictions, some Scots campaign for ban on eviction. Rent holidays have already been put in place in France for CROUS residents. IIRC businesses too. They could do it for ordinary people too.

Re: COVID-19 thread

I agree about abusive families. But 1) The medical systems are already strained under BJ and Macron. It'll be even more the case with Covid19. And the fatality rate rises heavily when there are no doctors or ICU beds left. 2) I've been waiting years for people to eventually place more importance on ...

Re: COVID-19 thread

With the current rate of expansion, America will likely be the most hit country by Thursday and Italy will overtake China they day after. But Italy's getting more and more recoveries (and deaths of course) so the active cases are not so many compared to America where it will likely continue soaring.

Re: COVID-19 thread

I don't think it is a natural tendancy of right-wingers. After all, Pence does better and Trump changed the Republican Party. I suspect that this attempt at analysing part of their worldview comes partly from not being one of them, even if I myself am certainly no right-winger either. Repeating the ...
