Re: Conlang Random Thread

The rest of the subject/object is understood for third person. (Alternatively, the full version of 3rd person pronoun...

Re: The Bugs - Can you speak Bug?

Yes, it's pretty much a predicate.... Though I'm reluctant to talk of verbs; tense and aspect is marked on 'nouns' Not a contradiction. 'rau'c' is different (it means you'd have to undergo a fairly long trek to reach the place...) No, 'rau'c' is not verb. The predicate slot is Verb-Positional-Direc...

Absolutely. Latin has been used to write a language with extremely diverse phonology from English, to Spanish, to Yoruba, to Indonesian, to Vietnamese, to Nahuatl, etc. Like Latin, you have to devise digraph or diacritic.

Re: The Bugs - Can you speak Bug?

Ah cool. I can see the language is evolved from a way to communicate the location of food, danger, etc. Then the language is extended to communicate something as expressive as human language. My question, how do you make a complex clause, like "I was walking to the base when the landslide occur...

Re: The Bugs - Can you speak Bug?

I liked this project. So my question:
.
  1. How is your linguistic universal in your conworld? Or does every bug speak a language
  2. How is a sentence formed in your conworld?

Re: Conlang Random Thread

One possibility would be to borrow only nouns, and then use them in a light verb construction (e.g., with a verb meaning do ---Japanese mostly does this, for example). I already know light verb construction. However, in language with SVO word order, heavy verb serialization, and no ditransitive ver...

Re: Conlang Random Thread

So, if I’m understanding correctly: you have a verbal system which is very irregular, but which contains much ablaut with some metathesis. However, as in English, the ablaut process is unproductive; that is, it applies only to some verbs. (I presume that there are several other processes which can ...

Re: Conlang Random Thread

My language has extensive ablaut. Sometimes, it can even become "triconsonantal". However, the triconsonantal system is rare, and it's mostly ablaut with some metathesis. The problem is that when loaning a verb from another language. Unlike Semitic, the ablaut is unproductive, due to varie...

Re: Conlang Random Thread

At the time, Nama was by far the world's strongest military power, but they were almost entirely a land-based empire, with only a tiny seacoast. When famine came, they invaded their southern ally, Paba, whose food supply came largely from the ocean and was thus unaffected by the cold spells. Why di...
