Re: New Project 202X Scratchpad
Yeah, y'all make good points. I think I'll go back and work on it so that there's morphological transitivity. Been slowly working on a new keyboard layout for IPA. Will probably have another update in a week or two. Before then, I wanted to go over the phonology: Consonants: ______________________ T...

Re: New Project 202X Scratchpad
I like SIL’s keyboards: https://scripts.sil.org/uniipakeyboard . I have the one from here for mac, it's just so unintuitive (I forget which key combo does what IPA symbol) compared to the one they used to have for windows that was my main keyboard layout since like 2010. If you still have the MSLKC...

Re: New Project 202X Scratchpad
The goal for this project were to combine a marked topic-comment language with an ergative-absolutive alignment in a way that feels naturalistic. Ooh, I did this a while back! I never got too much done, but you can see what I made of that particular conlang here: https://www.verduria.org/viewtopic....

Re: New Project 202X Scratchpad
Oh, I know of those too but it'll never be more convenient than a built in keyboard layout. And I got too used to my custom layouts on windows for how slow copy/pasting those would be. I'll eventually beat my head against ukelele until i spit out a custom IPA and conlanging keyboard layout for mac, ...

New Project 202X Scratchpad
Howdy y'all, it's been a while. So this is going to be a space where I detail my most recent project. The goal for this project were to combine a marked topic-comment language with an ergative-absolutive alignment in a way that feels naturalistic. As far as I know no currently extant language does t...

Re: Change My View: Jan Misali Is Kinda Bad
(then again, at least he isn't as annoying as Nativlang...) Lol, knocking my man Nativlang. Yeah, Nativlang is great. As for Jan, his content is okay. But he himself is openly dissatisfied with it, also since conlanging and linguistics was never meant to be a focus for his content. He just wants to...

Re: Capitalism: the cause of and solution to all life's problems
About shares, one way to approach it, as you imply, is to have them be proportional to average hours worked (yes, the case of workers who can't work more hours complicates that, but I have not thought up a better solution there). The solution is to not tie the ability to reproduce oneself to one's ...

Re: Capitalism: the cause of and solution to all life's problems
The essence of the free rider problem is that if the necessities of survival come from labor, then you need to require labor in exchange for necessities, or else society's net flow of necessities will become negative. But the whole problem of late stage Capitalism is that labor is essentially value...

Re: Capitalism: the cause of and solution to all life's problems
This is basically ignoring the problem of free riders. Like you, I believe most human beings aren't free riders.. But there would be enough of these to lower living standards for all, I'm afraid. Freeloaders are currently a problem under capitalism, and there's no incentive to not work since not wo...

Re: Capitalism: the cause of and solution to all life's problems
Regarding the idea that payment by average man hours encourages half-assery: The way I see it, doing your job as fast as possible and then goofing off is an incentive built into the human brain. This is an unsolved problem in socialist economics, so I wouldn't expect any of us to solve it. One joke...

Re: Capitalism: the cause of and solution to all life's problems
More power, and more kinds of power. One of the things that doomed unions in the US was that they only had one good hammer: agitation for better conditions, higher wages, and worker benefits. That had worked for decades, until the 1970s. Once the economy turned sour and businesses started looking t...

Re: Capitalism: the cause of and solution to all life's problems
Something that has recently occurred to me — investments in stocks can produce hypothetically infinite returns for a finite investment, which is more than faintly absurd. I think it might be interesting if, rather than being able to buy shares in a business in which you are not personally involved,...

Re: Capitalism: the cause of and solution to all life's problems
Well yes, but only due to the belief that the global north no longer has revolutionary potential because our workers are too comfortable. Haven't seen a serious one in a long time tho, not since we banned them off r/socialism. See, what we don't need is the workers of the global north and the worke...

Re: Capitalism: the cause of and solution to all life's problems
Yeah, no third-worldism is generally the belief that western, advanced capitalist nations are no longer capable of undergoing socialist revolution and that the global north's workers are more like the capitalist class than the rest of the world's working class. In a market socialist economy, automat...
