Re: Conlang fluency thread
I'm just saying it's unusual that in Toki Pona the term "context marker" (a practically non-existent term in linguistics) is used when "topic marker" would've been a good fit. (Any novel use of grammatical terminology is inevitably applies on a "best-fit" basis, becaus...

Re: Conlang fluency thread
It's fine actually. I'd just recommend that next time you introduce it to a conlanging group, you specify it's an artlang-verging-on-engelang inspired by Toki Pona, and that you consciously limit its expressiveness (just like Toki Pona). ... As another by the way, lots of languages have something s...

Re: Conlang fluency thread
jupiter's conlang is basically Toki Pona gone in a different direction. I personally don't like that he has a punctuation morpheme, nu , glossed "SENT" (sentence), which is basically a period, but I guess it's an effect of his self-imposed limitation of "do not use punctuation"....

Re: Conlang fluency thread
Claiming that one's language is not supposed to be a naturalistic one is not a good excuse for violating fundamental universals for all attested languages. (If someone finds a natural language with a unary number system I will eat my shoe.) If you think the language only violates one fundamental un...

Re: Noun Cases
Oh, absolutely. Many languages don't bother making those distinctions, but some do. If you want to distinguish allative, lative, and inlative, be my guest, but the same thing can basically be summed up with lative if you don't want to distinguish them. And almost all languages merge vialis and prola...

Re: Noun Cases
Okay. The point of it was to gather as many ideas as I could for cases, and I figured I would post it in case someone else could use it. I guess you’re right, though. I’m still new to this conlanging thing, and I’m still learning. But it was meant to be only cases found in natural languages, not sim...

Noun Cases
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1ZTNs8tEiRIHLr9Z6E8RSUnC6uRdIVllGwBpxmpZ6xzQ/edit?usp=sharing This is a spreadsheet of all known natural noun cases (at least that I could find), along with every case from my favorite conlang, Ithkuil. I made this when I was planning a conlang which was inten...

Re: Things Decided for Stupid Reasons
I added a second augmentative because I realized I had made fire "naťa" and sun "naťizi," and wanted to make it work with the augmentative I had already made. So now I have two augmentatives: -iz- and -ov-.
