Re: United States Politics Thread 47
And it's unfortunate that given the current political system we are stuck with, the only rational choice may be to vote for someone I despise (Gavin Newsom) -- and that anyone who doesn't vote for them in a general election, given the opportunity to do so, must be considered a fascist regardless of...

Re: United States Politics Thread 47
Ugh... I'm having severe angst over what Trump's doing to American relations with its allies. That bastard is more than likely doing Russia's bidding in this mess, and it seems to be working. I'm not even 100% convinced it's really Americans' fault. Maybe a fraction of Americans, but not as a whole....

Re: United States Politics Thread 47
Maybe but this pretty much torpedoes any chances of the Democrats winning the midterms which means that Trump will have a full four years of unbridled power. I don't know about that. The midterms are still nearly a year away. A lot can happen in one year. A lot of people in the Democratic Party are...

Re: Venting thread
For pity's sake, malloc, what do you actually want ? The only remotely reasonable demand I can make at this point is escape from this horrible and ever worsening world. Everyone here insists that I have the moral obligation to suffer an endless gauntlet of catastrophes for the rest of my life. We a...

Re: Venting thread
I am so done with Reddit. The subreddit for 50501 (the guys behind the No Kings protests) is seemingly being taken over by bots, and that's the main reason I've been going there lately.
There's also quite a bit of doom & gloom about politics across the site, which doesn't help.

Re: Venting thread
I think I may need to turn away from watching politics and current events for the sake of my mental health. Continuing reading about this stuff is upsetting me to the point of crying, and I find myself wanting to skip to the part where the USA is democratic again - and I'm not even 100% sure that pa...

So, there's protests across the nation today. What kind of effect will they have? Should we be optimistic?

Re: United States Politics Thread 47
Not to ruin anyone's good mood, but any comments on the Supreme Court's ruling today on nationwide injunctions by district courts? It's been bothering me all day and distracting me from my personal writings, so I could really use some insight right about now.

Figuring out how many sound changes I want
Okay, so I'm having trouble figuring out the number of sound changes I want for my language. I've got ~45, but most of them are major, and almost all of them were created with the goal of shifting the language towards certain results (phonology, the evolution of a particular word, etc.) I want some ...
