Re: Venting thread
I am basically a dead man walking . My relation with my assigned coworker is screwed because I can’t find the components from the bins/rack myself sometimes and I am often confused. Also my brother went out for a Bible retreat and may have gotten covid. The test was contaminated with food. He also ...

Re: Caste Systems in Conworlds
How would a modern state deal with non-religiously-sanctioned caste systems like shinōshoko?

Re: A Sociopathic Consociety
Sociopaths do not exist for any reason, they're a byproduct of biology and statistics. The world would be much better without them. Polish eagle on AH.com has argued that every psychological type has a place in society-so sociopaths or neurtypicals ruthless enough have certain roles to fill, especi...

Re: Random Thread
Sir Sadruddin Aga Khan's work for the UNHCR Prince Sadruddin's determination not to discriminate between European and Third World refugees helped prepare the UNHCR for a change in the landscape of internationally displaced persons. During the 1950s, between 200,000 and 300,000 refugees of European o...

Re: Random Thread
Queen Isabelle of Italy Isabelle Hélène Sursock fell in love with Prince Marcantonio VII Colonna [it], who brought her to Italy, where she was able to integrate successfully into Roman high society at a time when it had to deal with Mussolini. After the end of the monarchy in 1946 Isabelle effective...

Re: Nationalism and Culture
I tend to lean towards a more hard-core secularism partly due to growing up evangelical and my leaning towards technocracy. That being said, recognition of all major religions' holidays does defuse tensions. On another front, what can historically imperial or genocidal nations do to make up for thei...

A Sociopathic Consociety
Realistically how would a con world where the majority of inhabitants are violently sociopathic but willing to submit to authority function? How would the basic trust that undergirds even a relatively-less-community-centered like American society even appear here? Inspired by Green Antarctica and th...

Re: Nationalism and Culture
I don’t know all that much about either Chinese or American history (most history, in fact), so I can’t really comment about this. But I’m not sure that Alexander would describe China’s political system as anything close to that of Universal Culture: for one thing, it’s not democratic. I think the ...

Re: Nationalism and Culture
Religion is also a part of the culture wars.
I argue that for Christian hegemony in the US to be minimized,
Christmas must be removed from the list of public holidays along with all other religious holidays, for starters.

Re: The Contradictory Feelings Thread
One of my mom’s favorite lines to say when confronted with her behavior is:”There are worse people/families than me/ours” Nachtswalbe, I am asking this in 100% seriousness based on this and the other thread: Are you in any imminent danger to your person? No, and the worst incidents occured when a)I...

Re: Venting thread
I’m well and truly screwed because 1) dad will need to buy a car 2) I don’t have my own car because mom delayed getting my license until I was 20 because she concluded I was too unfit to drive a car
