Re: Capitalism: the cause of and solution to all life's problems

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Always_Coming_Home The Kesh use technological inventions of civilization such as writing, steel, guns, electricity, trains, and a computer network (see below). However, unlike one of their neighboring societies – the Dayao or Condor People – they do nothing on an indust...

Re: New Lulani script

Is the erosion into a semifeatural script like how Ge’ez vowels were originally written alongside their consonants but merged together, distorting the consonants in the process?

Why did liaison and the re-syllabufication associated with the word-final schwa occur?
e.g <Brest> can be prounounced as /brEst/ or /brEs.t@/

Re: The Contradictory Feelings Thread

On one hand I want to be in a relationship (and Mom expects me to marry and get her grandkids) but at the same time I’m not only Aspergic (which statistically reduces the rates) and do not want to interact as a way of avoiding being creepy partly due to my stupid fetish, and from my parents’ often f...

Re: Capitalism: the cause of and solution to all life's problems

How would the society depicted in Always Coming Home which is loosely organized, rejects formal governance above the “respected elder” level and a laboring caste etc. be classified economically?

Re: Venting thread

Any reason you feel the need to insert random Sinitic words? Because it’s easier and more concise when talking about cultural topics? I and my family do the same thing, actually — we constantly use words from Hebrew, Yiddish and Afrikaans when we speak, especially about religious topics. I meant in...

3. Phonotactics Given that the maximum syllable structure in Spanish is (C1 (C2)) (S1) V (S2) (C3 (C4)) where C is a consonant, S is a semivowel and word-final final consonants are /n, d, r, l, s/ and that the maximum syllable structure in French is CCCVC if liason and the word-final schwa are obse...

"Glorious Homeland" is much more comprehensible. Also the social expectation imposed by parents particularly mom to find a gf, get married and get them grandkids eventually. Dad thinks it's tragic that my 姑姑 gugu (father's younger sister) doesn't have kids; her husband was the CFO of some...

I'm not sure what 伟大诸国 is, but I'm guessing it means something like the "splendid regions" or "mighty provinces" (at least, that's roughly how I would interpret such a word as 偉大諸国 idai Shokoku — 偉大 idai , "magnificent, mighty", and 諸国 shokoku "various countries, ...

My mother is strongly pro-PRC being the daughter of a party member. She generally reacts strongly to what she percieves as insults to 伟大诸国 (Weida zuguo). She has suggested Hong Kong be starved to death for its rebellion (riots etc.) against China, and that China's ethnic minorities are parasitical (...

Simplified English 1. Motivation The goal of "Simplified" English is to explore both 1)what a detailed[0] attempt at "simplifying" English for ease of learning would have looked like an early-20th century context [1] and 2) to explore Germanic languages with more analytic morpho...

Re: Mandarin Words in an IAL

A suggestion: how about borrowing from Middle Chinese instead? Since the words are going to be mangled without tone anyway, why not mangle them in a way that'd make sense for as many speakers as possible? For instance, kwok for 'country' could be familiar to a Mandarin speaker and more than familia...

Re: Mandarin Words in an IAL

Just to be slightly contrarian: if it's that hard to borrow Mandarin words, your phonology is probably too Eurocentric, or even Romance-centric. Auxlangs all too often really want to be romlangs. It looks like many of phonological choices you've made are unhelpful not only for Mandarin but for othe...
