Re: Unhinged Lady Has Opinions About Toki Pona
Having recently bought and read both of the official Toki Pona books, I think that the language readily meets its stated goals. This passage might help, from page 11 (the section titled "Limitations"): Toki Pona has a rather narrow range of functions. Although it is very easy to meditate a...

Re: What have you accomplished today?
Functionally speaking, what you need is a pretty standard purposive. The question is then: can purposive semantics be expressed using an SVC? In most languages, the use of an SVC implies that the sentence is considered to be in some way one event — e.g. Tetun Dili (above) has a minimal pair between...

Re: What have you accomplished today?
(Also, you seem to have switched the last two words of the IPA transcription in the second sentence, though I assume that’s just a typo.) Ah, yeah that was just a typo. The IPA was right though lol. Still not entirely sure on the ordering of serial verbs I can’t see any serial verbs in your texts. ...

Re: What have you accomplished today?
Made some basic example sentences and I think I like where I'm at -- I finally have a lot of the basic structure, and infrastructure to make making words not take three months (along with a healthy dosage of chanting to myself "Don't let perfect be the enemy of good"). So here are those .....

Re: What have you accomplished today?
Just got back from a short vacation (I picked up a grammar of Basque and a few new dictionaries!) -- and I am no longer sleep deprived (no I'm not entirely sure what I was on about in my previous posts either)! And I got some work done on my lexicon and conculture's metaphors. Feeling good.

Re: What have you accomplished today?
So kanbeu can be divided up ... I have learned my lesson about being online and trying to be intelligible while sleep deprived. The actual example I wanted to use was literal gibberish using the phonology but I decided to use a word that doesn't actually apply instead -- something like kwata /kwa.t...

Re: What have you accomplished today?
Hmm, this seems really weird to me. For whatever reason, syllable weight almost never depends on the onset — you can assume that V, CV and CSV syllables will all be 1μ in whatever language you might look at. I’d suggest doing: V/CV/CSV — light VC/CVC/CSVC — heavy That makes a lot more sense and I'm...

Re: What have you accomplished today?
I've worked on researching for and creating the particle system for my currently unnamed conlang (I call it a particle system because it's pretty inspired by the Japanese postpositional system -- referred to as particles. Japanese and Spanish being large influences overall on this conlang). And beca...

Re: Change My View: Jan Misali Is Kinda Bad
So, I'll say this: Jan Misali's Conlang Critic show has always been pretty bland and 'point out random interesting tidbits from the wiki'-ish -- but that's not really what, at least I, come to his channel for. I come to him for the jokes, the music and the sense of community about the whole thing an...
