Re: Random Thread
I'm working on my CD collection sheet again, and I have problems with alphabetical order. I once ranted about romanization problems with classical composers, but actually, pop music also has lots of pitfalls. I try to be consistent, but sometimes my intuition collides with all attempts at making sys...

Re: COVID-19 thread
Hmm, I now realize my post was kinda insensitive. Sorry about that. I've edited my post accordingly.
I just meant to say that I don't really get along with these particular four guys, and we don't really agree on how to use the kitchen. Is that better?

Re: COVID-19 thread
I know containment measures are necessary and no fun for everybody... and that there are people in much worse situations than my own... but I wish I was in my own home, or with my family. Now I'm stuck in this lousy Airbnb, in a run-down building, with no internet apart from my 4G, with four guys I ...

Re: COVID-19 thread
Weird. I went to the supermarket this morning, and everything seemed... normal. Apart from hand sanitizers and protective gloves, there wasn't any shortage: half the pasta shelf was still full, potatos and TP were as usual.

Re: Random Thread
Well, after all that talk about C++, it turns out that the project will use C instead.
Well, at least I'll have time to study C during the lockdown.

Re: Language Telephone - TEAM 1 RESULTS!
A few belated comments on my translation. The “slashed” here is a typo in English. Ooops. The changes from “birthmark” to “whim” and “give birth” to “give light” are simply bad luck. Spanish uses the same terms for both. I recognized "dar a luz" (litt. "give light") as an idiom f...

Re: Dream sharing thread
Uh oh, that was weird. Unusually, this dream was almost entirely in third person: I was watching a character acting, not acting myself. In fact, at one point I was watching the thing happening on TV, then realized it was very late and I should use headphones to stop bothering the neighbours (though ...

Re: Confusing headlines
I read the sentence correctly, because I'm used to gaming lingo, where "broken" means "badly designed" (in particular "overpowered", but it wouldn't make sense for a law).

Re: Dream sharing thread
I enrolled into a military school for some 3-year degree. Among the students, a guy and a girl were dating: they started to have sex in a walled garden... only to find that, behind a curtain, all the teachers were waiting to do a welcoming party. Oops. Then a few students, me included, went in a car...

Re: The "How Do You Pronounce X" Thread
Thank you everyone. For crimson , I wanted to know if the s was pronounced /s/ or /z/, since I've heard it both ways. For God , I've heard Americans saying [gɒːd] when I would have expected [ɡɑːd]; I have also noticed that oh my Gawd is much more common than oh my Gahd . So, I thought that it may be...

Re: Words You've Learned Recently
Doesn't the runs mean the same thing? I was thinking about my recent mention of French la foire , a vulgar word for 'diarrhea' IMD the word foire doesn't mean "diarrhea" at all, but mostly "a fair, a fest" ( foire =fair and foire =diarrhea are apparently unrelated). Colloquially,...

Re: Random Thread
I've heard that people who started programming with Java (where everything has to be an object) have the opposite problem when using another language: they tend to make new classes everywhere, even when it's not particularly appropriate. The matter with Java programmers is probably an example of &q...

Re: The Contradictory Feelings Thread
I saw the people from Toulouse on Thursday, and they were still saying "we're interested in you, but we can't hire you until we have some actual contracts". No, thanks, I'm tired of waiting. So, I've signed for Nantes. Good news: I officially have a job! :D Bad news: I'll have to find a pl...
