Re: How would you rate the chance of flat-earthism becoming a serious thing soon?
Given that the idea can be easily disproved in many, many ways, I'd say the chances are quite high.

Re: Dekuvren is here at last
This is an interesting language - a Germanic language that has taken on some Vulgar Latin features. Is the idea to create bogolangs by applying sound changes of Romance languages to Dekuvren? I'm surprised that you, of all people, need to ask this - you always seemed very interested in my conlangs ...

Dekuvren is here at last
I say "at last" because its been in the pipeline for years, but only now that my vocabulary-and-sound-change program is usable have I been able to get on with it. As a reminder, it's derived from Bogo-Germanic and replaces the older "Dekavurian" in my conworld as the analogue of ...

Re: Happy things thread!
When sound changes do that to closely related words, I usually replace one word. But people can actually tolerate quite a lot of ambiguity. In English alone we have Turkey and turkey, Polish and polish, not to mention the absurdly divergent meanings that arise from toponyms— eating a Danish, french...

Re: Dream sharing thread
I had a dream last night with some linguistic interest! After divers peculiar events I ended up somewhere where an East Asian gentleman was feeling my neck to make deductions about my accent from the way my speech muscles moved, or something. He got me to say "jingle" and "jingles&quo...

Obscure question about French syntax
I remember reading that there are vestiges of V2 order in French; the example was "la maison où demeuraient les femmes". So presumably you also say "la maison où mangeais-je le repas". How does this work if the object is a personal pronoun?

Re: Happy things thread!
May we try this software too? Hahaha! It's *very* idiosyncratic to my personal needs, so I wouldn't recommend it. Even so, I’d at least like to see what it can do! FWIW, you can define hierarchies of languages, each with its own set of syntactic categories (parts of speech), lexical roots, and soun...

Re: A use for that AI text-generating thing
Hm! I suppose that there aren't enough conlang descriptions for it to train itself usefully on, and it ends up recycling its own output.

Re: Happy things thread!
Not so happy is that the word for "dwarf" comes out the same as the word for "mountain" in Dekuvren, which is funny on at least two levels but annoying nonetheless.

A use for that AI text-generating thing
Has anyone tried something like "Write a full description of a conlang based on Arabic, Spanish, Chinese, and Basque, complete with syntax trees and sample texts"?

Re: Happy things thread!
Congratulations! Was this the reason why we did not hear anything about your conlangs since you took your web site down? A large part of the reason. It's very difficult to keep several sets of descendent vocabulary consistent with your sound-changes when you keep changing your mind. The alternative...

Re: Happy things thread!
At long last - several *years* - my conlang vocabulary-management program, complete with reflex verification and other goodies, is finally usable! Now I can get back to actual conlanging, and you might see some substantial results in the not-too-distant future.

Re: Scottish Gaelic and Berber???
This substratum theory was discussed on the CONLANG list many years ago. Here is the list of 17 features allegedly common to Afroasiatic and Insular Celtic; here is the discussion - the bottom line is that all these features are either common enough to mean nothing, typological correlates of each o...
