I'm using 3.10.2. What might it be that's causing it?
This error message:

Code: Select all

TypeError: TextIOWrapper.write() takes no keyword arguments
suggests that mocha's version of TextIOWrapper is not the same as yours. That's pretty much all I can say.

Re: Random Thread

I don't know if any of you are Halo fans, but I'm gonna humble brag. I helped make the conlang that the characters are speaking. I'm pretty proud of it and I hope anyone that check's it out enjoys it. Congratulations! I'd be interested to know how, or even if, regular (i.e. non-conlanging) viewers ...

Re: Does anyone have a local copy of zompist.com?

If you want to download an entire site (ie., hundreds of pages), it would probably be faster to just use a web scraper. Not actually sure what that is. It's a program that basically does this: (1) Download webpage (2) Look for links on webpage (3) Goto (1) with new webpage(s) Fairly simple to code ...

Re: Random Thread

Long story short, any group that simultaneously has a) its own identity and culture, and b) a political struggle for equality, will also have c) gate keeping about how much of one you can have without the other. Now that's a way to make your conlang grammars more exciting.

Re: Russia invades Ukraine

This was written shortly before Russia invaded Ukraine, but it gives a very good analysis of the Russia-Ukraine war from a socialist perspective which is not some sort of apology for Putin or useless pleading for peace. It's very good indeed, and level-headed, which is unusual for the Marxist Left ...

"Bury" comes to mind for some reason, although I'm not sure it's really what you're after.

Re: Russia invades Ukraine

Unfortunately, there's a big subset of leftists who believe in a single villain-- the US government. They've spent decades demonizing the US government: it's the only agent in the world, everything it does is wrong, and no one else in the world has any moral agency-- they are only reacting to the U...

No, because the laptop is still with the manufacturer. Good idea though.

Re: Venting thread

To be fair, this isn't just corporate greed. Miniturization and price competition have led to highly consolidated motherboards that are very difficult to replace piece-by-piece. Years ago the inside of a laptop looked kind of like a desktop: off the rack parts connected with wires. Now it looks mor...

Re: Russia invades Ukraine

What a load of pro-Putin apologetics, while claiming not to apologize for him. Blaming NATO for Putin's war, or even implying some sort of shared responsibility, is apology for Putin. Bear in mind that Stop The War is basically a front (one of many) for the Socialist Workers Party, who are reflexiv...

Re: Venting thread

What likely is the case is that the power connector is soldered directly onto the motherboard, and either the connector is not made separately available or the first set of repair people were not competent enough to desolder the old connector and solder on a new connector. Definitely the first. I s...

In this case the "repair shop" was actually the manufacturer, after an actual repair shop told me they couldn't source a replacement part.

Re: Venting thread

I busted the power socket on my laptop and sent it in for repair. Apparently it's not possible to replace the power socket independently of the motherboard, and the cost is almost that of a new laptop. What a senseless waste of an otherwise perfectly good laptop.

Re: Random Thread

Edit: Bret Devereaux has some thoughts on the situation . If I could baldly summarize, Putin is probably making a big mistake, but isn't going to realize it for some time. And he's left himself no exit, so he's going to keep bludgeoning on, at enormous human cost. This. He's delusional and is despa...
