Of course, you can't expect to be taken seriously as a programmer unless you have a thorough knowledge of INTERCAL.

Re: Random Thread
I have been told many times that C is pretty much obsolete and that I am silly for taking such an interest in it. Would you consider that accurate? No, because it is the basis of so much else. But once you're comfortable with it, it's worth moving on to more powerful programming concepts and langua...

Seriously, Sal? How could you possibly imagine that the moderator would act with anything other than complete impartiality?
But seriously, or as seriously as this suggestion deserves, choose the questions at random.

Re: Random Thread
I'm still trying to figure out how to actually use object-oriented programming. As in, I understand how it works, but I'm still not sure when I'm supposed to think "hey, I know how to do this thing I want to do: I should create a new class". I've heard that people who started programming ...

Re: British Politics Guide
One idea might be to stage the debate as an elimination contest: one question is put to each candidate, and the one who gives the least convincing answer - as judged by an audience vote - has to drop out. Then it continues with a different question, and so on until only one is left, who is quite cle...

Re: British Politics Guide
Doesn't BP contesting the Conservatives in Labour seats just guarantee that those seats stay Labour? I would expect if Farage is trying to form some sort of alliance those would be the seats he concedes to Johnson. It's another of Farage's Cunning Stunts. Boris has stolen his thunder and he knows it.

I tried it with the opening line of Pride and Prejudice and was presented with a captcha. Make of that what you will. Meanwhile, let's see if this thing can help me win the pools: Wednesday 30 October Scottish Premiership Celtic 2 St Mirren 0 Hamilton Academical 0 Aberdeen 1 Hibernian 2 Livingston 2...

Re: Predictive text toy
A few more linguistic insights: It was during an otherwise forgettable lovemaking session with some not-very-exotic phonemes that I formulated the now standard definition of the syllable. It was in high school. We were getting together with other high school students to go to school events, and one ...

This is too much fun. Let's try it with some Lennon: 3. Let me take you down, 'cause I'm going to Strawberry Fields... 2. I am he as you are you are he as you are me and we are all together... 1. I read the news today, oh boy... 4. This is the best thing we've ever heard, it's like they finally real...

Re: Predictive text toy
Hello to another amusing excuse not to do anything productive for the rest of the day! I finally decided on an orthography for my latest conlang and ... the first thing to do was to learn the IPA of the most common words I wanted to have in the conlang. I did an extensive search to see if I had foun...

The opposite of a factitive verb, i.e. a verb which removes or lessens a property of its object, for example "decontaminate" or "un-whiten"? Is it "unfactitive", "fictionitive", or something else?

Re: SCA questions (cult initiation)
Now I'm curious: what kind of larger program can an SCA be fit into? For example: a program which manages vocabulary across several related languages and checks that cognates are consistently related, so that (say) Proto-Vasco-Caucasian /ɖuɣæŋɞʂ/ always corresponds to English /trɒl/. Dam, somebody ...
