Re: Language Telephone

Hmm, if I click on this , for example (from PGT XVII), I get: "There is currently no text in this page. You can search for this page title in other pages, or search the related logs, but you do not have permission to create this page." http://www.kneequickie.com/archive/Polyglottal_Teleph...

Re: Language Telephone

How do you manage to see the intermediate translations? Do you need a KneeQuickie account? Because I can't see any of them, but I don't have one... I tried to make my translation into English a literal but idiomatic translation of my translation into Turkish. I believe I did the same thing last tim...

Re: Language Telephone

Honestly it's up to you - it's just to help everyone else follow it. Looking back on the archives, a lot of ppl's towards the end are full of "(??)". And there's at least one where I provided two English translations to show before and after (I think in this case it was to highlight how no...

I don't even remember when the last one WAS let alone what I translated. I've done something into Latin a handful of times though.

Re: Innovative Usage Thread

I thought this was a thing in British English (EDIT: I might be remembering that part wrong) and that we've even talked about it before. That's different- we'd say things like "my bank are awful" or "England are a good team" when talking about teams or organizations because they...

Re: Language Practice (Help your fluency)

今学期古文を習い始めた。そうすると、現代の日本語も理解がよく上がって来たらしい。ここで少し古文を練習したいが、問題は単語があまり分からなくて、しかも全部が古風。本当に平安時代のものについて言うことがない。皆んな、古文のいいオンライン辞書何か分かるの? This semester I started learning Kobun (Classical Japanese). I feel like learning it has improved my understanding of modern Japanese quite a bit, too. I kinda want to pract...

Re: Language Practice (Help your fluency)

本当の母語話者と話してる時、いつもバカに間違って恥ずかしくなる。多分ここ、話さなくて書いてるので違う。でもないでしょう。 言語練習してると起こるでしょうね。 When I'm talking with actual native speakers, I always make some dumb mistake and get embarrassed. Maybe here, where I'm writing instead of talking, it'll be different. But I don't think so. I guess that's just how with ...

Re: DJP criticisms

I'm a bit late to the party as usual, but I wrote a review of DJP's book when I was still doing my blog. About two years ago. https://reuoq.wordpress.com/2016/11/19/book-113-the-art-of-language-invention-2015/ Basically the same as what some other posters have written here - I've found him at worst ...

Re: URGENT REQUEST Linguistics Dissertation: British English Speakers Required

It doesn't seem like there are that enough sentences to draw major conclusions, though... maybe that's just me. And I feel like you need more "dummy" or "control" sentences, ones without obvious controversial words in them.

I just sent it, anyway
