With a certain pride, I can announce that I've finished translating the first chapter of The Hobbit. You can find it here (PDF). I hope you can take a look at it and tell me whether you can understand anything.

congratulation / I possible understand-PFV some if.only voice-read / but help that read-know-PFV story

Congratulations! I can understand parts of it if I read it aloud, but it helps that I already know the story.

It rained after they left. They saw it coming.

------------------

A lot of evidentials here .... and Im not sure they even are evidentials, since they can occur for all three persons .... these are perhaps just best described as compound verbs, where there can be more than one verb in a single word, but only the final one can take tense marking.

I really want something other than boring ol' 3P for the weather verbs, and am considering using an evidential for that, too .... e.g. /norpevo/ " i see rain" alongside /norpežo/ "i feel rain" depending on whether one is outside or not. they would be mostly used in the 1st person.

[ I threw in an archaïzing /h/; I think af 'off' and af 'half' are homonyms/homographs in Sajiwan, no?]

My reply is below:

I couldnt really make much sense of this, and I suspect its largely because I never read the Hobbit and I can only recognize obvious words like blaksmis. This is definitely very well done and my not being able to read it doesn't diminish my impression of your work. And sorry, but not even Poswa is well developed enough for me to write a reply like this in it. In fact, Ive been losing my touch lately as Ive been focusing on other things.

Me les mek gut Sajiwa bahcm a dis seing. Fo nof it go bo cip an sel :).
I should make a good Sajiwan version of this proverb. It would probably be about a ship and sailing :).
(The litteral translation of the above would be something like "Sta gut a af don")

Ye, an ol a dem u ray "af". Olda ol rayting mek ol af rayting tahn, wen let ye sis-ten dem.
Yes, and both are written "af". All old spelling was abolished with the spelling reform, in the late sixties.

You should be able to recognize the first word "inside" :).
