Last week I was in Austria for holidays. I've skied and eaten a lot of Austrian food (Käsespätzle with Leberknödel ftw!), and of course spoken a lot of German. Now normal life has begun again, and I don't speak German anymore. With Easter I'm going to Saarbrücken, like every year, and I hope to practice my German again. I'd like to learn better German, but I have no time for it. Perhaps next year.

It's been forever since I've practiced my spoken German. I can't wait for my friend Thomas' visit. He's not coming until the middle of May though.

Is fuath liom an méid aimsire atá de dhíth ort chun leabhair áirithe a léagh. Thóg sé scór blian orm úrscéal amháin i gCatalóinis a léagh aon uair amháin. Tá cheithre leathanach agam le léagh i nDialann deoraí fós agus os cionn cheithre bliana ó thosnaíos air! Agus ní mó ná go bhfuilim ag léagh luaithe i nGaelainn anois ná dheineas ansan.
I hate how long it takes me to read some books. It once took me twenty years to read a single novel in Catalan. I have four pages left in Dialann deoraí, which I started reading over four years ago! And I'm hardly reading any faster in Irish now than I was then.

Indeed, learning foreign languages is difficult. The only thing that helps is exposure; hear it, read it, speak it and write it.

This semester I started learning Kobun (Classical Japanese). I feel like learning it has improved my understanding of modern Japanese quite a bit, too. I kinda want to practice Kobun here, but the problem is, I don't know much vocabulary, and it's all archaic anyway. I just don't have much to say about things from the Heian period. Anyway, does anyone know of a good online Kobun dictionary?

A, Kobun. Daigaku de chotto benkyō shitan da. Hontōni muzukashi-sugita. Keitairon ga yoku wakaru yō ni zenzen naranakatta.
Ah, Classical Japanese. I studied it a little bit in university. It was way too difficult. I never became any good at understanding the morphology.

I'm not Japanese but, from my perspective, it does look polite.

In three weeks I'm doing my A2 German exam, which I need to pass to enter a Master's at UVienna. My vocab's not bad and my reading and listening are OK, but my writing and speaking need improvement. Is there anybody here who likes to play video games and would like to practice speaking while playing them?

I basically don't play any video games so unfortunately I can't help you out with that.

It's an open question whether I could help you anyway. Yesterday evening I was chatting with an old friend from Germany and it was embarrassing how I stumbled my way through. I couldn't even recall the word for "relationship" when I needed it.

*1) zu Hilfe kommen implies mostly actually physically being there to support, even if used for moral support or support in discussions or negotiations.

1Very old fashioned.

Good, why not? I'll travel next year to Austria again with the family, so I need some practice.
