For a few years, some people have been saying that the Star Wars prequels weren't that bad, and that it's time for a rehabilitation. OK, I thought I would see them again to judge it for myself. So far I've re-watched I and II. And my verdict is...

Nope. They're as bad as I remembered them.

Well, I wasn't bothered too much by Phantom Menace, because I remembered it too well: my little brother was a fan, and he watched the VHS approximately a thousand million times. So, time has dulled my reactions, from "this is wall-bangingly dumb!" to "oh yeah, that was a thing". But I only saw the other two once, in theaters. And, golly, Attack of the Clones is even worse than I remembered: the pace is horrible, the plot only makes sense if everybody in the Republic is mind-bogglingly stupid, the CGI is very dated (which would be forgivable if it wasn't everywhere), and do I need to mention that the main romance is the cringiest ever??? Also: is it me, or does Natalie Portman act badly? I mean, we know from other movies that she's a great actress, but here she's really annoying.

[2¢ theory: some actors, like Samuel L. Jackson or Ewan McGregor, have enough personality to make a badly-written character come alive. Others, like Portman, tend to "melt" into their role. Which works great if the role is well-written! But with a bad script and bad direction, the results are awful. Which makes me think: maybe Hayden Christensen isn't such a bad actor after all, and was never given a chance?]

OK, a few scenes can be saved: the pod race, the lightsaber battle against Darth Maul, the chase scene. Also, John William's score.

On a more positive note: I've seen The Runaways, a nice biopic. So I've been in the mood for some female-played hard rock.

I am living for the HU getting their due. I first came across them about a year ago on Youtube and immediately loved them, and it's awesome to see them doing stuff like having their music in a Star Wars game! They even got mentioned on a local radio station here lately... which is pretty nutty given that they only play the safest of rock and metal music. For them to mention a foreign folk metal band is astonishing.

Dogri is an Indo-Aryan language spoken mainly in Jammu (in the southern part of the Indian state of Jammu and Kashmir) as well as in Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, and Punjab (in both India and Pakistan). It used to be considered a dialect of Punjabi but is now apparently considered a Western Pahari language; the Western Pahari languages have some strong similarities to Punjabi anyway. I'm afraid I don't; that seems like a pretty obscure song, and the only Christian songs I know at all are some of the hymns my parents know, which are almost all our in hymn book (plus one other song and now this, both in similar contexts i.e. someone posted the other song on a forum, too). I tried to write out the lyrics with an IPA transcription and translation, though; I can't tell what they're trying to say at the end of the second verse:

Ive been playing this video game music over and over for two weeks, probably at least a hundred times. I used Audacity to clip out the beginning and end of the clip so that it just has the "cave" music, whose official title is The Holy Intruder. But oddly, I like it with the sound effects in. So, while video game music is a niche, I am probably a niche within that niche in that I like the sounds of the game, not just the music of the game. Another game that sounds great is Mystic Quest.
