It’s what you get when you run underlying iambic stress through five subsequent phonetic rules, one of which does syncope and another of which does epenthesis.
So would there be any minimal pairs?
Almost certainly, though they would be hard to find.
bradrn wrote: ↑Sat Jul 10, 2021 9:59 am
…how do you get that? The sample text is just some of my recent posts to the Conlang Fluency Thread. The language isn’t a pidgin at all — I suspect any English-like feel comes from the stress pattern, the long vowels and /ɹ/. You’re right about Sydney though.
I think you answered your own question. That, and some of the w words look like clitisized we, we're, were; and /sɨˈmpiɹiˌjam/ looks suspicious. Just my mind playing tricks on me.
Well, /sɨˈmpiɹiˌjam/ is indeed a loanword from Cymbidium. No clitics though.

I also found it kind of weird /u/ didn't occur in stressed syllables like /a i/? Is there a thing about that?
This is because there was a sound change which lengthened stressed vowels, except */ə ɨ/ which became /a i/.
And overall, the language reminded me of Hindi with lenition of voiced plosives.
I didn’t know Hindi had voiced plosive lenition. Do you have a source? At least Wikipedia doesn’t mention it.

I read that as reminding them of Hindi, except with lenition of voiced plosives.
Yeet. This be what i meant.

Consonants can be geminated. Consonant clusters agree for pharyngealization. Most instances of [bˤ] and [mˤ] are the result of pharyngealization harmony and/or nasal assimilation (e.g. /wàmbˤaʕrúf/ and /nɨxːâmːˤə̀ʔʃ/ are underlyingly |wà-nˤ-baʕrúf| and |n-ɨɣ-xânˤ-mə̀ʔ-ʃ|), some are, however, unexplainable.
It is unknown whether the contrast between /ɨ ə/ was one of quality, length (with /ə/ being longer), or both.
There are three tones: high, low and falling. Some syllables can, however, be toneless. The falling tone often spreads into toneless syllables when on a short vowel, creating a sequence of high and low tones.

Geminated consonants are doubled. (For digraphs only the last element is doubled.) At the end of a word the final ⟨-ö⟩ may be placed before rather than after a pharyngealised consonant cluster. In most cases the diaeresis may be left off for readability.
EDIT: And I’ve just realised that if you replace the overdots by apostrophes, the carons with ⟨-h⟩, double all the letters, and transcribe /ʔ/ ⟨qʼ⟩ for good measure, it gives you almost canonical ‘Standard Average Fantasy’:
