Has anyone tried to combine a caste system with a case system?
Self-referential signatures are for people too boring to come up with more interesting alternatives.

Zompist did. That's more or less what Munkhâshi and Axunashin do.

On IRL premodern social hierarchies
Typically, patriarchy used to be only one of the most apparent manifestations of a hierarchical social structure and social ideology that reflected on all levels: there was hierarchy of genders (not only in binary male/female: there were eunuchs, sometimes codified roles for gay or trans people to some extent, etc.) bloodlines, castes, classes, jobs, levels of wealth, legal status (slave/serf/free etc.), reputations, learning, etc.

Because rule of law was perceived to be a mechanism of upper caste control, corruption used by caste mafia became popularly accepted, as it was perceived to be a means to achieve lower caste empowerment.
