Re: Civil War Alternate History

I want to make a standardised version of Transylvanian Romanian (including Banat), perhaps based off of the Cluj dialect. It is supposed to be officially a separate language from Romanian, as Romanian is spoken in the neighbouring independent Romania (Moldova + Wallachia) while Transylvania is a state in a federalised country with Budapest as its capital. Standard Romanian is identical to OTL, so Standard Transylvanian will want to avoid the Italian orthographic influences. What do you guys suggest?

I am thinking they might use a heavily Hungarian based alphabet, but I still want it to be phonemic.

Sequoia and King Canyon are never made into national parks or aren't made into them until the 50s or 60s. Consequences?

In general, there are few American national parks. Yosemite, Yellowstone and Mackinac are definitely national parks, but I'm unsure about any others being created before the 50s and 60s.

Rock Creek Park also exists, but I'm not sure about its classification as a lot of details about Washington D.C.'s legal status is undecided

I meant to ask but forgot: Have you by any chance taken a look at the Wikipedia article on Transylvanian varieties of Romanian?

Yes, I find it too vague about what features are common where and not in depth enough

The International Alliance of Negroes (Alliance internationale des nègres, Alleanza Internazionale dei negri, Internationale Allianz der Neger) was founded in Dakar in the 1920s as an association of political parties and activist groups predominantly made up of black people advocating for black people. Controversially, the charter of the organisation bans anti-capitalist organisations and organisations advocating for an overthrowing of government. The association mainly works in France, Germany, Italy, the US, Portugal, Egypt and the Imperial Federation of Nations, although there has been a large increase in its involvement and membership in Latin America and Morocco. Asanteman, Buganda and a few other African countries have permanent representatives in the organisation. It has often been criticised by the black community in America and Haiti for being too focused on solely the black people in Europe and Africa.

What can Japan do with Kamchatka? (They bought it from Russia).
All I can think of is forestry, mining, fishing and potatoes.
Anyone have additional/different ideas?

government question - how can Confucian monarch (a Vietnamese emperor) and a Second International member party share power? It is part of a treaty after a major war, but I can't figure out how it can work in practice.
The particular party has both real deal communists and social democrats; they both favour democracy as a method of government, although they are split on whether it should be single party or multi party. (Bolshevism doesn't exist)
Other context: Besides Cochinchina, Vietnam has never been under French rule. Cochinchina is still French. It served as a base for the socialists who are grateful to the French for allowing them to organise and prepare in French territory. The socialists and the general public are Sinophobic. The Emperor also doesn't like China but relied on Chinese support to stay in power. He would rather Cochinchina and Cambodia become Vietnamese but doesn't plan on invading because Vietnam has no hope to defeat France.
The socialists wanted a federal Vietnam with different states for each ethnicity. The emperor wanted a centralised state. They compromised with autonomous ethnic regions under a central government, but I don't have a clue about how they would function.
Also Vietnam keeps the name Dainam (well, Đại Nam in Vietnamese).

All these British political events put British politics ATL back in my mind.

I forgot a lot of details about the Liberals and Conservatives in the 19th century, but the main point is that the Liberals had the upper hand in most elections ATL. The rising Lib-Lab movement was accepted by the leadership of the party, causing more conservative members to break away and form the Constitutionalist Party together with free trade-supporting Conservatives. This effectively makes the ATL Liberal Party a less radical, more acceptable Labour Party and the Constitutionalist Party a more powerful version of OTL Liberals. All three parties stay major to the present day, with the Constitutionalists serving as kingmakers. In other parts of the Imperial Federation of Nations, socialists do not merge with liberal parties. This leads to the Constitutionalists mainly being members of the national Liberal Party, while the British Liberals are split between the Socialist Party and the Liberal Party in the Imperial Parliament.

I had the Liberals managing to pass their version of the Reform Act of 1867, but I forget how I had them accomplish this.

I have Austria-Hungary splitting while retaining personal union so that Austria (including the non-German parts of Tyrol, Bohemia, Moravia, Gorizia and Gradisca, Carinola, Istria, Silesia, Trieste and Styria) can become part of a somewhat more centralised German Confederation. The rest becomes a federation of the remaining crownlands, with the capital in Budapest. I named it the United States of the Danube and Venetia, or Danubia and Venetia for short.
Can anyone think of a better name?

The states:
Duchy of Bukovina
Kingdom of Croatia (including Slavonia and Dalmatia)
Kingdom of Galicia and Lodomeria
Kingdom of Hungary (including Fiume and Slovakia)
Voivodeship of Serbia
Grand Principality of Transylvania
Banat of Temeswar
? of Venetia (including Lombardy east of the Mincio and the towns of Mantua and Peschiera del Garda)

Venetia is either a kingdom or grand duchy within the federation; it is not federal itself.

I keep forgetting what are the states of the Russian Empire, so posting this as a reminder for myself:
  • Armenia - Kars
  • Belarus - Minsk
  • Estonia - Tallinn
  • Finland - Helsinki
  • Georgia - Tpilisi
  • Latvia - Riga
  • Lithuania - Vilnius
  • Poland - Warsaw
  • Russia - Moscow
  • Ukraine - Kiev
Plus a single state for all the mainly Muslim governates. I haven't come up with a name or capital yet.
The capital of the whole country is St. Petersburg.
