Idiom Creation Thread/Game
Idiom Creation Thread/Game
A thread to create and often overlooked aspect of language creation otherwise known as Idioms for your language. How it works is you take the idiom made by the person above you and give it a meaning in your language before providing another idiom for the next person to use. You could change up the exact details of the grammar of the idiom a bit but try to keep the lexical things the same (or change them up a bit to fit the conworld). Meanings for the idiom are preferrably not provided to give people more creativity.
If you don't know what an Idiom is its anything whose literal translation doesn't match its meaning "raining cats and dogs (it's raining a lot now)" "It's not the sea to drink (it's not particularly difficult)" "To leave with the head (be engrossed)" "A dog doesn't recognise it's owner (it's chaotic)" "A frog in a well never knows the vast ocean (be humble)".
Some Amarin Idioms

NEG COP.2.sg rabbit LNK 2.sg
“It’s not your rabbit”
“It’s not your business”
manja ami kili na sua

“It’s not your gift”
mori ami koko na a
NEG COP.2.sg cat LNK 2.sg

And the provided Idion: Like yellow grass

gdalle wros menten
yellow grass seem
"to be like yellow grass"
"to not match"
In Msérsca, the words for green and grass have the same initial consonant cluster, as they do in English. Like "green grass," wrý wros is a common phrase with a nice alliterative quality. gdalle wros, by contrast, sounds a bit clunky. So just as the words themselves don't alliterate (alliteration being a common feature of Msérsca poetry), two things can be said not to go together by comparing them to yellow grass.
Next idiom: from the big chair

(animal of redness and with pointed ears and face and working now for human...)
in nijorvasabhumi there is no such thing as an idiom,
in the absence of a dictionary...
however, metaphors, even if they are not lexicalized, are allowed in on-the-fly construction,
even if they must be, at least in context, transparent...
here the translation, in absence of words for "fox" and "dog", is: a fox on the verge of being domesticated...
we could be referring to a person (especially a redhead or someone with a fiery temper) who would soften up when living with a partner...
next: to drink your own piss

Re: Idiom Creation Thread/Game
you came into a thread for idioms for your language which lacks idioms
Re: Idiom Creation Thread/Game
Yes,
but everything that exists in one human language
can be translated into another human language...
if proof were needed...
(at least that's the proof I'm looking for here in nijorvasabhumi...)
