Very drastic coming from this through it has probably been around 8000+ years more than the time between the poem and the proto language it descends from.

I'm amused by how this makes
absolutely no sense in the setting of the language. Also, why would the name for a species of bird suddenly become the name of a male sea god (ignoring that the attached culture has no pantheon, either presently worshipped or historically)? I
really want to know how this happened.

Cardinal Bird as in the chinese legendary bird or some foreign species of bird i have never heard off? Also why wouldn't a female bird goddess take her name from an important bird. And you seem to have missed the part about the the sea god is in opposition to the bird. Also they got teleported to a new land.

It's just a
normal bird, of no particular cultural significance other than that it is a rather pretty one. The people who speak the language do not consider it in any way particularly magical or special, though they might keep art or photographs depicting it because they like looking at them. The etymology is also rather dull — the word is just an originally dialectal contraction of a longer form, standard
akadoel, dialectal
akadeul, meaning "red bird".
...missed the part about the the sea god is in opposition to the bird.
I would normally interpret "as opposed to" in that context as the name belonging to the goddess instead of the sea god, to which it had belonged before, whence the confusion. It sounded, when I read that, like the name had been transposed from a masculine sea god to a feminine bird goddess.
Anyway, we can ignore the odd story aside and get back to the topic; Prenasalisation strengthens:
