Thank you all!
While searching for things for my work team’s scavenger hunt earlier today (which I won in a three-way tie), I found a book on the historical phonology of the Chari languages that I forgot I had. I’m looking forward to harvesting the correspondences for the Index Diachronica.

I did a short talk on the latest zeptoforth news at a Forth Zoom meeting earlier today and it went well IMO.

Re: Happy things thread!
I have submitted my book on progressive rock, which will presumably appear on the market at the end of the month! Also, I have bought a lab coat that promises to be much fun to swim in.

Excellent. That makes me kind of sad I don't read German.WeepingElf wrote: ↑Mon Mar 10, 2025 10:06 am I have submitted my book on progressive rock, which will presumably appear on the market at the end of the month!

I second both of these statements. (While I do know a bit of German, it's really just beginner-level.)Ares Land wrote: ↑Mon Mar 10, 2025 10:20 amExcellent. Well, I am a recreational fully clothed swimmer, and light flapping clothes are most fun to swim in.Ares Land wrote: ↑Mon Mar 10, 2025 10:20 amThat's a surprising sentence if ever I read one!WeepingElf wrote: ↑Mon Mar 10, 2025 10:06 am Also, I have bought a lab coat that promises to be much fun to swim in.

Since when were lab coats ‘light’ or ‘flapping’?WeepingElf wrote: ↑Mon Mar 10, 2025 11:32 amWell, I am a recreational fully clothed swimmer, and light flapping clothes are most fun to swim in.Ares Land wrote: ↑Mon Mar 10, 2025 10:20 amThat's a surprising sentence if ever I read one!WeepingElf wrote: ↑Mon Mar 10, 2025 10:06 am Also, I have bought a lab coat that promises to be much fun to swim in.

Well, they are at least not very heavy. A kimono would be even better, of course.bradrn wrote: ↑Mon Mar 10, 2025 8:06 pmSince when were lab coats ‘light’ or ‘flapping’?WeepingElf wrote: ↑Mon Mar 10, 2025 11:32 amWell, I am a recreational fully clothed swimmer, and light flapping clothes are most fun to swim in.

Re: Happy things thread!
It is. However, pools usually don't allow it, so it is essentially an open water activity. But well, swimming in open water is nicer than in pools anyway, though you need warm weather for it (unless you enjoy cold water swimming, which I don't).Ares Land wrote: ↑Tue Mar 11, 2025 8:10 amIt does sound fun !WeepingElf wrote: ↑Mon Mar 10, 2025 11:32 amWell, I am a recreational fully clothed swimmer, and light flapping clothes are most fun to swim in.

Re: Happy things thread!
One of the things I need to become a Luxembourger is to either take a 24-hour civics class or pass the associated civics test. Because 24 hours seems like a pain to work into my schedule, I figured I'd take the civics test instead. Extra fun is that I chose to do it in French, primarily because there weren't spots available for tests in English, but also because I don't trust their translations of French into English and I speak the language well enough. However, a lot of people I know were complaining about the test and saying it was extremely difficult, so I was prepared for the worst... I studied a bit, brushing up on Luxembourgish history and the governmental structures, but wasn't sure if it was enough (and other things were getting in the way; however, booking test times is always a challenge and I just figured I would go for the test today and see what would be the worst that could happen).
I went to the test this afternoon. Forty multiple-choice questions in one hour; I was done in 10 minutes and very cleanly passed (35/40). Very happy that's out of the way. Now all that's left is the language test...

Congratulations! And good luck! I'm a bit surprised that there was an option of taking it in English, though.doctor shark wrote: ↑Tue Mar 11, 2025 2:55 pm One of the things I need to become a Luxembourger is to either take a 24-hour civics class or pass the associated civics test. Re: Happy things thread!
Merci! They actually offered English, German, and French as test languages for the Vivre ensemble test, funnily enough; the naturalization/option process formally only requires knowledge of Luxembourgish.Raphael wrote: ↑Tue Mar 11, 2025 3:14 pmCongratulations! Out of curiosity, how long is the rest of the process likely to take? (With the usual caveats about not jinxing it.)
