The poster of Nighthawks that I ordered has arrived in the mail! Now I can make a pathetic attempt at making my room look like the room of someone who's a bit more sophisticated than I actually am!

Good ooze #2: I finally got my brother to get off his lazy *&% and apply to renew his passport, so, if he gets it in time, then he'll also be coming for my defense. As much of an interesting relationship as I have with him, I am looking forward to showing him around the area and getting him out of the US for a bit.

Yep, still here. (Hopefully will end up staying on this side of the pond for the foreseeable future.)

One is surely entitled to a certain amount of smugness when one can point out the mistakes in a professor's pronunciation of Anglo-Saxon :D
Self-referential signatures are for people too boring to come up with more interesting alternatives.

Just got word that the article I submitted about a month and change ago was accepted for publication. Should be out within two weeks, I hope, and just in time for my thesis submission.

I so happy.

Today was a good day. I had three fresh fried sardines, and I've been studying Amharic. I have no words to describe how pleasurable that is.

Ive got it!
It’s sitting in my condo’s parking spot right now!
I drove it home from my sister’s house in 18 hours.
In an hour or so I’m going to take it out to run some close-to-home errands! Like I couldn’t do the week before I left to get it!

Phew, now that the courses have started, I will finally be able to sleep.

See, the students came back to the campus about two weeks ago for registration and club activities, but the courses hadn't started yet. So they had lots of free time. So they threw parties. Every. Single. Night. But I was still working and had to wake up early. Thankfully, they have finally calmed down.

Weird to see someone with your avatar complaining about loud music! :P

I have no problem with good loud music. But student parties always play bad loud music. ;)

More seriously, closing the windows got rid of most of the noise... but the temperature was still high, and I would have liked some fresh air. So I had to choose: spare my eardrums, or spare my sweat glands.

I really enjoy when the students are gone for the summer. But today I helped give tours for the international parents (international students arrive about a week before everyone else) and not only was it fun, it kind of made me look forward to next week's orientation activities.
