I presume a reference to Infocom?
No, a reference to this.

Cool! It was visible in the morning in France, but the sky was really cloudy.
Of course, this being Britain, it was foggy all night here.

Too Much Information behind the cut:

Turns out that weird little swelling spot on my penis is just a somewhat bulging stretch of artery. Phew.

I just did an Engineering Review for the feature I have been working on at my day job for roughly the past two years, and it went really well, with the vast majority of the (relatively few) review comments being just cosmetic improvements to my ER slides (and only one code change being required, because a user interface element implemented by one of my coworkers had a couple minor typos in it, i.e. not being consistent with the use of '-' versus '=').

Congratulations!

Got my flu and COVID vaccines for the fall out of the way. Hardly a major win compared with all the problems facing me, but I definitely remember forgetting to address that until it was almost too late last year.

Well done. At the very least, it's one fewer thing to worry about.

That said, vaccines always leave me feeling achy the next the day. Obviously they're for the best, but still kind of a pain when I have work that day.

Yes, that's my experience, too. Of course, this is simply because the immune system is stimulated by the vaccination and working hard. No need to worry about that.

The brutal heatwave of the past few months has finally broken and remarkably quickly at that. It has taken only several days for the daily temperature to fall from 38°C (100°F) to 18°C (65°F).

Glad to hear. The transitional seasons can be weird.

Here we're going from 10°C at night to 30°C during the day; it's really pretty pleasant weather.

where I am it seems like we're not getting an autumn this year; in the span of two weeks the average high has gone from around 24°C (75°F) to just below freezing, and it doesn't seem to be slowing down. at this point I wouldn't be surprised if we're getting snow midway through October.

And here we're getting normal weather for this time of the year, with daytime temperatures in the mid-to-low 60's F, and nighttime temperatures going down into the 40's F.

After roughly 18 months and intermittent complaining, I finally got my 2024 tax assessment from the Luxembourg authorities, and it ended up being a rather plump refund. (On the other hand, trying to figure out how they got to the exact numbers they did is a bit puzzling, but some things are perhaps beyond mortal comprehension and the assessment is more or less in the ballpark that I estimated.)
