Mild Vent: After a long day of travel, it still feels like I'm on the mode of transport, whether a car, train, or plane, for quite some time afterwards. Also didn't help that my train got canceled on the way back, so some rerouting on-the-spot was needed...

"I shouldn't have to ask!". You should, i am not able to read your mind like a telepath.

If your impatience prevents you from communicating, i cannot stress enough how much you don't deserve respect. This is a flaw that should spring up when you're having a bad day, not Just Who You Are

How did the "i'm a baby, i don't like negativity" crowd take over the planet? It's sickening how much constant, forced positivity there is. It's not even 'positivity', it's just a narrow, saccharine version of it.

"Educate yourself" means "I don't know either". If somebody shoves a resource before your face, and expects you to mindlessly agree, they're also not worth respecting. Don't get me wrong, the privileged are not owed an education from the oppressed; but other than that, I have no idea what anyone expects to accomplish.

This is a little First World vent, but this morning I got up early to work on hardware vertical scrolling for zeptoforth on the PicoCalc, to discover to my displeasure that not only would the ST7789V, the display I currently have to work with, wouldn't do hardware vertical scrolling the way I wanted it to (as I am currently using it in swapped XY mode and hardware vertical scrolling only supports unswapped XY mode), but furthermore both the ST7365P and the ST7789V do not actually move memory with scrolling but rather only remap addresses, which does not work well with how I am managing my framebuffer.

One of my shoes just broke to the point of being unwearable and I sliced open my finger trying to stitch it together temporarily.

A Naive Gullible Idiot was recently very cleverly manipulated into transferring A Large Amount Of Money from their bank account into that of a complete stranger, and was saved solely by the absence of a second form of identification. You might laugh, but that Naive Gullible Idiot was me; don't think it couldn't happen to you.

Yuk. I'm glad that the absence of a second form of identification saved you.

It happened to a friend of mine, too. Difference: he did not notice in time, and part of the money is gone.

At yesterday’s band practice, I received an e-mail purporting to be sent from Charles Schwab. There were several immediate, glaring red flags:
  1. There were 998 other recipients despite the message being about “my account”.
  2. The e-mail directed the reader to use a Windows laptop or desktop to open the link, citing “security” and saying it wouldn’t work on Mac or mobile.
  3. There was some formatting failure.
I tried to Reply All to warn the others but my phone’s e-mail client apparently can’t handle 990+ recipients.

Vent: It's hot right now. Like, ~32ºC hot, which is very unusual for this time of year in the Grand Duchy. It's not so bad in my apartment... but in the labs at work, where you need to wear protective equipment, it's downright unpleasant and unbearable. (Not to mention some of our chemicals really don't like the high temperatures, either.) The heat wave should break by the end of the week (and next week will be a lot cooler), but I have quite a few things I want to do soon... though it also doesn't help that some of the chemicals I want to try have yet to arrive.

Other vent: A while ago, I got my 2024 Dutch tax assessment, which was a refund. It was quite a bit less money than I was expecting, and I probably want to contest it (part of it is a double-tax issue with Luxembourg). The problem, though, is that what I got issued was what they call a voorlopige aanslag (provisional assessment), and you can't appeal a provisional assessment: you have to wait for the final assessment to appeal. And I'm also still waiting for my Luxembourg assessment and to see in what direction to go...

Seven months of severe neuro(?)psychiatric(?) symptoms and still no diagnosis. Getting extremely tired of this. Will have to seek another year of medical leave from my grad program at this point because it looks like I won't be going back in September. Seen half a dozen doctors (each one meets with me like twice, then refers me to somebody else), they've proposed everything from epilepsy to brain inflammation. Tried many meds, no improvement. Getting pessimistic.
Ye knowe eek that, in forme of speche is chaunge
With-inne a thousand yeer, and wordes tho
That hadden pris, now wonder nyce and straunge
Us thinketh hem; and yet they spake hem so,
And spedde as wel in love as men now do.

Sounds awful. I hope this gets sorted out soon.

We've had the same problem in England. For me, the immediate worry was that I had 6 months supply of a drug (in tablet form) whose information leaflet said 'store below 25ºC' and for which there were online sources saying 'do not store below 15ºC'. Feeling a bit silly, I made inquiries of relevant professionals, and finally got some advice from the manufacturer. Their advice - it's OK to store it for 6 months at up to 40ºC, and it's OK to pop it in the fridge if I'm worried about it going off. (I've got 6 months supply from the hospital because my GP is nervous of prescribing it.)

Another synagogue was firebombed last night. This time it happened during a Shabbat dinner, while children were playing only metres from the front door. I had thought that the immediate threats to my safety had passed, but apparently that’s not the case…
