So you'll need a new job. Perhaps this is the time to leave the United States and move to a country that is still free?

This is, IIRC, not the first time this has happened, and you're clearly still there.

Let's see where you are in two weeks or so and look back on this, shall we?

(Aside: if you used the username "calloc", which zeros the memory it allocates, rather than "malloc", which doesn't, would things be any different?)

Thank you for making the obvious point for me.

That's precisely the problem. They haven't forgiven me for all my past mistakes and consider me one of the lower performing employees. This latest incident is looking like the last straw for me, especially given the current financial problems facing the company which have already forced budget cuts.

Apart from the practical problem this presents, I cannot overstate how much it sucks being so disliked in every area of my life. I have no offline friends, I have always clashed bitterly with people here and drawn their derision, and my workplace considers me an incompetent embarrassment.

A U.S. passport isn't that expensive ($165 for 10 years if you've never had one before), and there are also quite a few options where the employer will also pay for the move. Another option (that I've considered, though I'm working on a different passport right now) is Canadian Express Entry. Point being, for me, that moving can be expensive, but it (a) doesn't have to be: I spent about $1200 to move to Luxembourg for my Ph.D., which I recouped quickly, and (b) if employers want you, they'll be more than happy to help with the cost. (And in some places, like the Netherlands, they have to.) ESL can be quite popular and fall into this category.

Irish or Greek ancestry can also be a route to a foreign citizenship. German is trickier, but possible if a qualifying ancestor was born after 1914. (Italy recently restricted their citizenship by descent rules, so that's less an option.)

I should note that malloc, despite all his psychological issues, even if he loses his job now, nevertheless managed it to spend a fair amount of time with a job, a car, and his own apartment or house. That's more success at being an adult than I've ever managed myself.

That's a fair point. Better than I've managed in that area of life.

How do people play audio in public without headphones and not get the shit kicked out of them? Or at least are politely asked to stop it. Somehow, I'm the aggressor for asking them to stop no matter how I phrase it. They're too superior to even say no1.

On an unrelated note, my car and phone both broke on me. I know where to get them fixed, it's just going to be a rough week or so.

1. Nobody "learns how to say no". They start to become worthy of being in public. If they're so delicate/ magnificent, they can hide away in private or some suburb. Where they can hear endless positivity for themself. On top of that, it's projecting a sense of impatience and arrogance onto me.

Just found out a high school classmate of mine was shot and killed this past weekend. While I wasn't close with them (we were in contact here and there), it's still quite rattling to hear the news... or, rather, first see all the outpourings of sympathy on social media before seeing the actual news.

Nearly one year has passed since I announced my plans to commit suicide and despite my better judgement, I have tried patiently waiting for a miraculous turnaround. With the recent assassination and resulting propaganda victory for Trump, it has become clear to me that life will never improve for me. Therefore the only rational solution is going through with my original plan.

Please, and I cannot stress this enough, resist the urge to call the cops for a wellness check. The last thing I need is the Missouri state government, completely dominated by MAGA zealots, knowing my politics. Telling them is no different than ratting out a political dissident to any other dictatorship.

Above all, I must condemn the imbecile whose reckless violence has given the Trump regime its Reichstag Fire moment. Regardless of their good intentions, they have doomed the US and quite possibility the human race.

No, it has become clear that you are consistently refusing to contemplate any possibility other than the very worst. That is not ‘rational’: it is defeatism.

Quite the contrary. I spent the past year giving life the chance to improve and for all my negative predictions to be proven wrong. Instead my initial apprehension has been completely vindicated. If one year of careful deliberation and patience doesn't satisfy, what exactly would?

Take, for instance, your declarations that this assassination will suddenly buoy MAGA... which have no substance or basis in fact -- they are just you insisting on seeing the world in terms of not only the worst now, but the worst possible, despite any evidence to the contrary. Seriously, you are being a complete defeatist, which is entirely different from being rational.

GET HELP.

People here do care about you, and we are saddened to see you spiral into mental illness AND KEEP REFUSING HELP. You cannot solve your problems the way you're doing (sitting around and stewing). You need help, and I hope you don't want to be remembered at the guy who was too damn stubborn to sit down for an hour with a professional.

As I've said before, if the problem is money, I'll pay for your first session. Do not use money as an excuse to keep refusing the help you need.

Since you never seem to know how things in the world work, at your first session, ask for reduced rates based on your income level.

Also, I knew someone who saw a counselor, sat there saying nothing, and then wanted to leave because the counselor hadn't told them what to do with their life. There are two things you need to tell the counselor: that you are having recurrent suicidal thoughts, and that see your life as hopeless. One session will not solve all your problems, but it can be a start, if you are honest.
