Congrats on the table, but why would you want to ever finish? ;-)

What sort of question is that‽ That table was painful to write. I needed to make 88 separate suffixes!

I assume you mean the coming up with the content of the table (the actual suffix forms) rather than just making the table for the post? Or maybe it's both.

I feel your pain. I had a similar number for Yokai's verb concords, and it took me 5+ months to come up with something I'm happy with!!!

Oh, both, though mostly the content: the table was easier since I did everything in Excel.

I was deliberately trying to be quick and non-perfectionistic for this one, so it only took me a week or so of procrastination.

Then we obviously have different tastes in conlanging. :-) Creating inflections is the most fun part! (And I come from a family of model railroad enthusiatst - the fun is in the building; if you ever finish a layout, that means you have to tear it down and start the next. Same for conlangs with me, except for the tearing down.)

What an odd attitude. Making roots and affixes is a simple matter of putting phonemes together. Any novice conlanger could do it. Morphosyntax and semantics, on the other hand, are much more interesting.to learn about and create.

Yes, I tend to do this as well.

Well, my tables tend to include the morphonolgy - my main project is an IE ex-post language, so tracing the development of the stem - suffix combinations and the effects of analogy is important. Semantics and (morpho-)syntax are, of course, also important and fun parts.

Ah, in that case the forms themselves become much more important.

Just finished a list of 838 Proto-Hesperic root words, based on The Oxford Introduction to Proto-Indo-European and the Proto-Indo-European World by J. P. Mallory and D. Q. Adams (2007).

past couple of days but:
  • figured out comparative adjectives in modern gothic (next up: superlatives)
  • cleaned up the anthologica writeups and filled more out, and made a (private) page to collect more thoughts and notes to myself that i can use at home or at work
  • finally figured out which sound change was giving me all these GODDAMN homophones all over the place (it was the rule that deletes the first of two adjacent fricatives, which among other things meant that tons of words beginning with sw, fw, etc. all just began with /v/ now)
i will be changing that rule post haste, probably replacing "F₁F₂ > F₂" with "F₁F₂ > F₁P" (zv > zb etc.)

Why not just change it to delete the second fricative? So sw → s, fw → f etc.

My guess is they probably like the result of the fortition better?

yeah i'm gonna try a couple different possibilities when i'm tinkering but without having run the tests yet i'm guessing i'm going to find the results of FF>FP more interesting than just deleting the other one instead

well it turns out that didn't solve the problem, back to the drawing board

otoh, anthologica gives you the option to edit your writeups in html rather than bbcode, which gives you more flexibility, so it's been fun scraping the rust off my html/css skils

Maybe simply let the fricative pairs exist?
