"Hundreds Of Teacher Candidates Shake Up Midterm Elections"

https://talkingpointsmemo.com/news/hund ... p-midterms

For one moment, I thought that in addition to all the other weird offices that are directly elected in many parts of the USA, some places had started holding direct elections for the office of teacher...

"How Will Hurd Thrives in a Sprawling, Divided Texas District"

It took me several reads to determine that "Will" was the candidate's first name.

A witches’ brew of over-the-top Trump attacks (WaPo)

Despite the source, I was still momentarily confused whether this meant "attacks on Trump" or "attacks by Trump".

"Thank God!", says massacre Facebook page leader
More: show
This is about a murder case from 2 years ago that went cold and has been out of the spotlight for a long time. Given the many massacres that have occurred since then, this headline will almost certainly be misread by nearly everyone who hasn't already heard the story. thats on top of the many ways this could be misparsed grammatically.

The BBC has a big scoop: Skai Jackson's face used to sell fried chicken.

Did it!? Was it acting unilaterally!??

Sweet Potato Latkes for Channukah

Are these potato latkes which have been sweetened or are they latkes made from sweet potatoes? I can see a case for either.

I'd go with the second because the first is too horrifying for me to contemplate.

It's not pre-sweetened, but there's usually a little sugar added to the batter and a little more sprinkled on top at the end.

Gonzalez called Zavala "totally innocent," adding that she "had just gone shopping based on some debris strewn at scene."
(NBC News)

I know that seeing the debris from a car crash always reminds me of things that I need from the store.
