I must say, I am completely stumped, so I guess I’ll have to resort to guessing subgroups randomly… is it Wandala–Mafa? (In
Blench’s classification, that is.)

I assume you’re not being serious here, but in the event that you are, Karch already said what family this is:

It is Biu-Mandara, but not Gude or Lamang.
And there could well exist a Japanese–African creole, but I’m almost certain there isn’t a Japanese–Biu-Mandara one!

I doubt that there would. There are very few Japanese based creoles or pidgins, and I don't think there have been many dealings between Japanese and Africans.

It’s been more than a week, so I can only assume that everyone’s forgotten that I asked this. Could I get an answer please Karch?

Could it be Bura–Higi then?

Well, we already know it’s Chadic, so I assume so…

It isn't Bura-Higi.

Is it Afade/Kotoka? That one looks like it has /θ/ (or a variation thereof)…

Aargh… Gidar? If not it has to be Biu–Mandara B — in that case, I guess Majera.

It is indeed Biu-Mandara B, but not Majera.

At this point, I think I am forced to give up: there are only a few possible languages left (Musgu, Muskum, Jina, Yedina/Buduma), but I cannot find a source (whether primary or secondary) for any one of those. Am I at least correct in saying that it is one of those languages?

Yes.

Out of all of those, it looks like Yedina/Buduma is the only one with significant resources available (though as I said I can’t access them). So, taking a wild guess… is it Buduma?
