Mostly I relied on these videos:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qdE8ihW5qbs
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qt8BnF7zE-Y

(I dislike videos in general, but they’re helpful for something like this.)

It seems like the basic procedure is to start by making a long shallow cut lengthwise, to get something you can write with. (Or if you’re a weakling like me, whittle bits away until you get to something which looks vaguely OK.) Then turn it around and slice away the back, to make the tip flat on both sides. Then you can square off the top of the nib and trim the sides until you get to the width you want. It took me a few tries to get it right, but now I’d say I can make one in only a couple of minutes.

Indeed it is! (My recent calligraphic endeavours started with Verdurian, too.)

Vrkhazhian is 10 years old today. Here's to 10 more years. Maybe then it'll be developed enough to start actually having corpuses.

Not just the birth of my most cherished language, but also a lifelong passion for linguistics and philology.

Amazing, as always! Though I do continue to wonder about the meaning of phrases like Hýmáhadamápákacelmá mrtnyrhekcỹmalre keqtjentate

Ooh, gloss time!
hýmáhadamápákacelmá mrtnyrhekcỹmalre keqtjentate
hý-má-h-ada-má-pákac-el-má mrtnyr-hek-cĩmo-l-re ke-q-tje-n-ta-te
presence-GEN-*-money-GEN-voucher-DEF-GEN ownership-INST-person-DEF-DAT given-FUT-POT-N-ACC-be
"payable to the bearer of this banknote" (lit. "can be given to the person who has ownership of this banknote")
(This will also be combined with the earlier phrase, so the subject here is actually the value of the note: e.g. Átcete dénarák hýmáhadamápákacelmá mrtnyrhekcỹmalre keqtjentate.)

*it's an epenthetic consonant, since a long and short vowel can't combine across morpheme boundaries.

The sentence on the back is a threat that says "Ilian laws prescribe that the makers or users of counterfeit banknotes in Ilia can be punished with up to ten years' imprisonment and/or an unlimited fine."

Ah-ha… so these are really just long compound nouns, more like German or Sanskrit than Kalaallisut or Mohawk. (Though admittedly the boundary gets blurry at times.)

Indeed. I was more inspired by Hungarian than anything when I first came up with Ilian... uh, almost fourteen years ago? (I feel old.)

Yes. This language has always reminded me of Hungarian, and its Romance neighbour Telemor of Rumanian.

Same exact thought here.

Today I worked on Tm (see my sig) for the first time in literal years, and I shoved it down the Psychedelic Allophony Chute.

A lot of that came from the time when I lived in the UK and had just travelled extensively through eastern Europe (incl. Romania and Hungary), and I guess it just stuck. (Reminds me I should try to visit Romania again at some point...)

Anyways, today, I made more money.
