Consonants

/m n ɲ (ŋ)/
/p t k/
/b d ɡ/
/f s ʃ/
/v z ʒ/
/ʁ l j ɥ w/

(/ŋ/ only in loanwords.)

Many words have a final consonant which is suppressed in most environments. I will write it as a superscript /ⁿ ᵖ ᵗ ᵏ ᵛ ᶻ ʲ ʶ/ in that case, or with a tie when it is realised.

Vowels

/a ɛ i œ ø y ɔ o u ə/
/ɛ̃ ɑ̃ ɔ̃/
/ɛː ɑ œ̃/ (in some dialects, otherwise merged with /ɛ a ɛ̃/)

The schwa /ə/ is often elided, in which case I will write it as a superscript.

Sample text

/lɔʁ.skə ʒa.vɛ si.z‿ɑ̃ᶻ ʒɛ vy ynᵊ fwaᶻ | yn ma.ɲi.fikᵊ i.maʒᵊ dɑ̃.z‿œ̃ⁿ livʁᵊ syr la fɔ.ʁɛᵗ vjɛʁʒᵊ | ki sa.ple is.twaʁᶻ ve.ky || sa ʁə.pʁe.zɑ̃.tɛᵗ œ̃ⁿ sɛʁ.pɑ̃ᵗ bo.a | ki a.va.lɛt‿œ̃ⁿ fovᵊ/

/m n ɲ (ŋ)/ m n nh ng
/p t k/ p t c
/b d ɡ/ b d g
/f s ʃ/ f s ş
/v z ʒ/ v z j
/ʁ l j ɥ w/ r l i+V iu+V u+V

A suppressed final consonant is written singularly, a pronounced one is written doubled, except final -z when always pronounced is -z, and when suppressed is -s.

(Since I think I know what these words are, elisions are also marked with apostrophes for morphemic clarity. Feminine gender is also marked with an orthographic schwa, even if it isn't usually pronounced.)

/b d ɡ/ b d g (as with "c")
/f s ʃ/ f s/ss (intervocalic)/c (before e, i, y)/ç (before a, o, u), sc (before e, i, y), sç (before a, o, u)
/v z ʒ/ v z/s (intervocalic) g (before e, i, y)/j
/ʁ l j ɥ w/ r l i+V u+V ou+V, but [wa] is written oi
/a ɛ i œ ø y ɔ o u ə/ a è i/y (in some words of Classical origin and the pronoun y) eù eu u ò o ou à
/ɛ̃ ɑ̃ ɔ̃/ in an on
/ɛː ɑ œ̃/ ê â un

/lɔʁ.skə ʒa.vɛ si.z‿ɑ̃ᶻ ʒɛ vy ynᵊ fwaᶻ | yn ma.ɲi.fikᵊ i.maʒᵊ dɑ̃.z‿œ̃ⁿ livʁᵊ syr la fɔ.ʁɛᵗ vjɛʁʒᵊ | ki sa.ple is.twaʁᶻ ve.ky || sa ʁə.pʁe.zɑ̃.tɛᵗ œ̃ⁿ sɛʁ.pɑ̃ᵗ bo.a | ki a.va.lɛt‿œ̃ⁿ fovᵊ/

A very neat solution, and one I hadn’t thought of myself.

(Of course it falls apart a bit when you remember that in most cases it’s optional… perhaps only the mandatory ones could be marked.)

Yes, well done. And I’m glad you realise the clarity is ‘morphemic’, not syntactic (insofar as the distinction is meaningful anyway).

Thank you. I know a bit of French at least (I sometimes get confused with Ryuusenshi, who actually is French), and long ago, I thought it would be very much easier if final consonants with no historic schwa were doubled to indicate when they usually pronounced. I also considered using -x for "always pronounced [z]", and -z for "suppressed [z]", but I felt like that was cheating off the existing language a little too much. It would also have worked the other way around, too.

No orthography is perfect.

Any other diphthongs are written as <y h w> + V because they're all fake anyway. Also schwa just isn't written because that literally will never be a problem.
