Zompist Bboard Again

Hi all, I have attempted to translate the phrase 'you(pl) are our(excl) friends' into several languages that I am totally unfamiliar with: Standard Arabic, Persian, Urdu, Hindi, Bengali, Turkish, Indonesian and Somali. I would appreciate any and all corrections or improvements. The Somali is the one I am least confident about. Also any suggestions for font/styling - this is intended for a poster.

In Hindi, if you're using āp you'd want हैं haĩ, not हो ho.

This also applies to Urdu, but I'm terrible with Arabic script. However, if possible, you should use a Nasta'liq rather than a Naskh font for Urdu.

Nothing to add except that simplified Nasta'liq is the main style for Urdu whereas modern Persian uses it only for poetry.

Thanks! I'm using the familiar forms in Urdu and Bengali, as I thought the polite form could be too distancing for trying to express solidarity. I will change the Hindi to match. Maybe I should use the polite forms though?

If you check the image, the Urdu should be in Nastaliq (specifically Noto Nastaliq Urdu font). I just had no idea how to do it for the text.

Thanks for the translation. This is intended specifically to show solidarity with Muslims though so for the moment I might not add it.

I have also added a Turkish translation.

I think āp is safer, as it's always respectful, and that seems appropriate if it's a message from outside the community. (But if you know a Hindi/Urdu speaker, ask them.)

I don't know any of these language either, but after messing around with Google Translate, Wikipedia and Wiktionary for awhile, I think a better translation for Turkish would be Arkadaşlarımızsınız

And there you have a one word sentence. I don't know what it might signify pragmatically though to express it that way, but it should hopefully be more correct.
(your translation used friend in the singular and repeated the second pronoun twice while forgetting to insert an obligatory vowel between the adjective and the possessive suffix.)
Funnily enough, dost is also a word for friend in Turkish, but it comes with connotations of being a secret lover - no doubt due to it being a borrowing from Persian poetry!

I'd also go with आप. I'll ask one of my Hindi-speaking acquaintances. I know a native speaker of Persian so I can clear that translation up with her. I don't speak Arabic but using Wiktionary + Hebrew + intuition I think that your translation is not only accurate but the Google given one is worse then yours.
I also know a native speaker of Dari if you want a translation in it.

Yeah that's pretty much exactly how I did it , except the Somali took a lot more digging than the others.

I wasn't sure if it needed the -lar- or not, and it just seems slightly lacking to my English-speaking perception without the separate pronoun

Great point. If you don't mind asking mèþru that would be much appreciated! I figure that the Dari will be similar enough (or even identical) to the Farsi that it is largely unnecessary. I also assumed that the Persian makes a Pashto translation unnecessary as well.

Got confirmation on the Persian! It's correct.

The Urdu in the image says اپ instead of آپ.

EDIT: Also, really? The last word in the Persian doesn't have to be هستید?
EDIT2: I mean, the Persian certainly isn't grammatically wrong, but I thought in written Persian, you'd have to write out هستید.

EDIT3: Also the Bengali in the image says আপনি (which is singular) instead of আপনারা (which is plural).

It's very provoking when people refuse to speak like the textbooks.

But more seriously, a translator really has to know what they're doing when attempting more colloquial registers. For Nerulent's purposes, a little formality is far better than a botched familiarity. The English version probably shouldn't read "You blokes are our pals!"

I'm actually not sure whether it's supposed to be familiar in Hindi or it's some kind of regionalism that's spreading or what it is. But yeah, haĩ is probably the best choice.

All I know is that my French teacher, who is a Farsi native speaker from the Tehran area, told me it is correct.

Kamu is singular. You may want to use kalian.
