Re: Random Thread
Random serious question: How has the Catholic Church in the USA traditionally handled the fact that in that country, there were Catholics of different ethnic backgrounds, sometimes living closely together? Were there ever separate churches for, say, Irish, Italians, and Poles? I mean, aside from th...

Re: religion in Maraille
Drifting away from Maraille particularly... has Zo Thought been developed in any particular way, beyond being the thing that induced the population of Homeland not to be overly Ayn Randian at each other? I've always hazily envisioned it as being one of those things, like Buddhism or Confucianism, wh...

Re: religion in Maraille
Always fun to get an Incatena question. :) Still, be aware that that page is a lightly updated version of notes made 30 years ago for an RPG that never came together. If I ever decided to revisit Maraille for an Incatena story, I reserve the right to change stuff. And if anyone wants to actually us...

religion in Maraille
Hodgepodge of random questions here. What do Catholics of Maraille do regarding the Pope? Is he taken seriously, considered some sort of distant semi-metaphorical figure, ignored, forgotten, something else? The nature of the papacy, viewed from a perspective that doesn't adhere to the dogma of the C...

Re: British Politics Guide
The Cabinet Manual has a few interesting comments although I didn't notice that it specifically says when a prime minister's resignation ordinarily takes effect, which seems relevant in any circumstance to which the question applies. https://assets.publishing.service.gov.uk/government/uploads/system...

Re: Incatena customary international law
That does seem along the lines of what I expected… interesting that Sihor has as high a presence of analysts, I was thinking they were primarily on Mars except for embassy staff and field agents for whatever reason.

Incatena customary international law
I took a class on the law of the sea recently, and was re-perusing the incatena page even more recently (i.e. it's open in another browser tab as I type) and the question popped into my mind of how much continuity there is between customary international law of the present and customary interstellar...

Re: Venting thread
It’s not necessarily the case that anyone outside your landlord’s organization will see that record. Sounds like an internal record from how you describe it, and it would probably stay internal, if so. Even so, they could just be mentioning it at all to try to scare you into timely payment in the f...

Re: Venting thread
Yeah, no. Apparently this was one month's rent, a week or too late. This is common as dirt in credit histories and will not destroy anything. You can ask the major credit agencies (Equifax, Experian and TransUnion.) for a copy of your credit report, for free. You could then compare your credit scor...

malloc, landlords are not the law. He may not know the law, or may hope that you don't. But he has the records saying that I failed to pay rent on time. He has probably already gotten a hold of the court and started the process of evicting me. Even if not, he already has everything necessary to sta...

Re: Venting thread
I couldn't remember what state you were in off the top of my head, but that link Zompist provides seems pretty typical of rules I am aware of. You may indeed not need a lawyer at all if you're early enough in the process, and often enough, attorneys may give free or cheap consultations (under an hou...

Re: Venting thread
I don’t know your exact situation or the exact laws in effect where you live, Malloc, so interpret this accordingly, but a lot of places have some level of tenant protection such that you could be able to contest it in court, especially if you have the money available to bring the rent current. Prob...

I use ublock origin and haven’t had to do anything beyond installing it to achieve my desired goal of adblocking.
I also use freetube, a youtube client for Linux which blocks the ads among other things, if you care to look into that.

"A New App Lets You Read All About Watch World News"
I initially interpreted 'watch' to refer to viewing videos about international news, and was very confused until I looked at the article and realized that the authors were talking about news relevant to wristwatch enthusiasts.

Re: Experiments in Verdurian lettering
I like the blackletter font, although I feel like I will like any blackletter font adapted to other scripts. Thanks — but it’s not a font! It’s hand-lettering. (I’ve become very pedantic about these things lately… not that I ever wasn’t, mind you.) I noticed after following the link to the Lord of ...

Re: Experiments in Verdurian lettering
I like the blackletter font, although I feel like I will like any blackletter font adapted to other scripts. I noticed after following the link to the Lord of News page that apparently my browser isn't displaying the Verdurian font there. A couple of the links for font sources seem to be dead links,...

Re: How often do you use cash ?
I mostly use cash if I'm buying in person, and reserve other forms of payment primarily for online purchases. I have a bit of a preference for not shopping online. I get and spend $2 bills. I have checks from my bank but I am addicted to cash so in the sort of circumstances where I might use a check...
